Alua Tenerife is a four-star hotel with 243 rooms, renovated in 2023, and it suits couples who want the sea and Puerto de la Cruz within walking distance, as well as families who value space and things to do on site.

The mood is straightforward and holiday-focused rather than hideaway-quiet. You have a heated outdoor pool with a pool bar, a buffet restaurant, evening entertainment and a small shopping centre with a supermarket within the property. That combination matters when your day has involved salt, sun and a suspicious amount of effort just to put socks back on.

The hotel team also speaks Spanish, German and French, while English is covered as well. A concierge, tour desk and 24-hour reception make the place workable for a relaxed island stay, whether you plan to spend your afternoons by the pool or head out to explore Tenerife.

You are in Puerto de la Cruz, on Tenerife's north coast, with Playa Jardín about 300 metres away. It is a black-sand beach, reached on foot, with sun loungers and parasols. Playa del Muelle is about 0.8 miles away, while San Telmo Beach is roughly 0.9 miles away, giving you more than one option when you fancy a change of coastline.

Puerto de la Cruz is close enough for an evening walk rather than a logistical exercise. The bus station is about 0.5 miles away and connects the town with other parts of the island. Plaza Charco is roughly 0.7 miles away, San Felipe Castle around 0.4 miles, and Taoro Park about 0.8 miles from the hotel.

You also have restaurants close by, including Tasca Alte Heimat around 300 feet away and Mojo Picon roughly 750 feet away on foot. Tenerife North–Ciudad de La Laguna Airport is about 15 miles away by road; Tenerife South Airport is around 55 miles. Airport transfers are available through the hotel, either privately or by shared shuttle, and a car-hire service is also available.

The standard double rooms are a sensible choice for two, with twin beds, a private bathroom, air conditioning and a balcony. Choose an ocean-view room when the view matters to you; choose the pool-view option when you would rather keep an eye on the hotel's daytime activity. Both give you a proper place to sit outside, which is useful when the room has become the temporary drying ground for swimwear and the rest of your luggage has lost the will to live.

For three guests, the double rooms remain workable, but the suites and one-bedroom apartments give you more breathing room. A suite adds a sofa bed, while the duplex room is the option to consider when four people need to share without turning every surface into a bed, bag or charging station. Family rooms are available, and children of any age are welcome; cots can be requested for children aged two and under.

The rooms have wardrobes, bed-side sockets, towels, toiletries, a hairdryer, a kettle and a flat-screen television with satellite channels. Free WiFi covers the hotel. Daily housekeeping keeps the practical side of the stay moving, while air conditioning is the feature you will appreciate most when the Atlantic has been replaced by a warm, salty day in your own equipment.

The all-inclusive formula keeps the main business simple: eat, drink, and get back to deciding whether the afternoon calls for the pool or a horizontal position. Breakfast is a buffet served from 7.30am to 10.30am, with lunch and dinner also available at the main restaurant. Special-diet menus can be requested.

Restaurante Principal serves international cuisine in an air-conditioned indoor setting. Restaurante Temático takes the evening in an Italian direction, giving you an alternative to the main buffet when another plate of pasta feels more appealing than another tour of the same counters. Room service is available on request.

There are two bars. Bar Piscina sits beside the outdoor pool and focuses on cocktails and refreshing drinks, while Bar Principal occupies the lobby and serves cocktails and other drinks. A snack bar is also available for the moments when a full meal is too much commitment but an empty stomach is not an option. The all-inclusive arrangement does not cover Vertigo and Enyesque.

The outdoor pool area gives you the easiest post-dive plan: find a lounger, order something cold at the integrated pool bar and let the day become less demanding. The main pool is heated, and there is also a children's pool. Pool and beach towels, sun umbrellas and outdoor furniture are available, so you do not need to turn your room into a beach shop.

If muscles have opinions after a long day, the hotel has a gym and an indoor pool with sauna and hot tub. The indoor pool, sauna and hot tub are chargeable, and the indoor pool closes on Saturday afternoons and Sundays. Massages are available as a separate service. The gym and fitness facilities give you somewhere to stretch the legs; nobody is suggesting that you must use them.

For a little more movement, there are tennis and squash courts, table tennis, billiards and a free pitch-and-putt golf course. Bicycle hire is available. Families have a children's club for ages four to twelve, children's entertainment, a play area, a games room and a children's menu, while live music and evening entertainment give couples a reason to stay out of the room without having to leave the hotel.

Check-in starts at 3pm and check-out runs until midday. The minimum age for check-in is 18, and you will need photo identification and a payment card on arrival. Let the hotel know your expected arrival time. Private parking is available on site, and a paid airport shuttle service can be arranged through the hotel.

For a car-free stay, Puerto de la Cruz bus station is about 0.5 miles away, and Playa Jardín is close enough to reach on foot.
