Aquaventure Dive Center

Aquaventure Dive Center has been a fixture of the Maldivian diving scene since 2013, operating as the first local dive centre in Addu Atoll. Their deep roots in the region are backed by over 25 years of experience in the Maldivian hospitality and diving industry, ensuring a professional approach to every trip.

The centre is positioned to provide an alternative to mass tourism, focusing instead on small groups and personalised guidance. Whether you are looking to complete your first certification or are pursuing advanced technical training, the setup is designed to handle a wide variety of diver requirements.

The team consists of four professional instructors and divemasters who possess extensive knowledge of the Addu Atoll's specific channels and reef systems. They offer instruction in English, French, German, Dutch, Arabic, and Dhivehi, making them highly accessible to an international clientele.

Safety and attention are prioritised through a maximum ratio of six divers per guide. This allows for a more controlled experience, whether you are navigating the currents of an outer reef or exploring a wreck within the atoll.

As a PADI 5 Star and TecRec Instructor Training Center, the range of courses is extensive. Beginners can start with the Open Water Scuba Diver or Open Water Diver courses, moving through to Advanced Open Water Diver and Rescue Diver.

For those looking to progress into professional or technical realms, the centre offers Divemaster training and a full suite of technical courses. This includes training for advanced divers through to technical specialisations, supported by their status as a TecRec centre.

The centre operates two traditional Dhonis, providing a local feel to your excursions. These vessels have capacities of 12 and 18 divers respectively, ensuring that groups remain manageable and comfortable.

Daily schedules typically consist of two morning dives followed by a single afternoon dive. Night dives can also be organised upon request for those looking to see the atoll's nocturnal life.

The shore-based facility is well-equipped for both recreational and technical diving. They maintain a large inventory of 50 cylinders, including S80, S40, and twinsets, as well as ten 15-litre steel cylinders. For those requiring Nitrox, the centre has a robust on-site setup powered by three BAUER K14 compressors with a total capacity of 750 L/M and 300 BAR buffers for efficient filling.

Full rental kit is available for divers who prefer not to carry their own, featuring reputable brands such as Aqualung, Cressi, Apeks, OMS, and Mares.

The atoll is a destination for those seeking large pelagics. You can expect to encounter Manta ray (Mobula alfredi) at cleaning stations throughout the year, alongside various shark species such as Tiger sharks, Silky sharks, and Grey reef sharks. Schools of Eagle ray (Aetobatus) and various tuna (Thunnus) are also part of the local ecosystem.

The reef itself is vibrant, populated by Napoleon wrasse (Cheilinus undulatus), various reef fish, and several species of turtles, including the Green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas). You will also see whitetip sharks, blacktip sharks, and Eagle rays patrolling the waters.

For those with an eye for detail, the environment supports a variety of smaller life, including Moray eel (Muraenidae), Snapper (Lutjanus), and trevally. Nudibranch (Chromodoris willani) and various species of Shrimp (Caridea) can be found amongst the corals and reef structures.

The Addu Atoll is largely enclosed by islands and reefs, which provides a level of protection from heavy swell. While the inner reefs generally experience low to negligible currents, the channels can produce very strong currents, which are often the catalyst for sightings of large pelagics.

The outer reefs can also experience varying conditions, with currents ranging from calm to strong. Planning your dive around the lunar cycle can be beneficial, as stronger currents during the full or new moon often attract larger fish.
