Some hotels are about getting away from everything; this one is about looking down on it. Jumeirah Mallorca sits high above Port de Sóller, with the bay below and the Serra de Tramuntana rising behind it. The setting suits couples wanting a polished base for a few quiet days, but families are catered for too, with a children's club for ages three to twelve.

The atmosphere is smart rather than rustic. Air-conditioned rooms, sea or mountain views, a spa, an infinity pool and several places to eat keep the day pleasantly self-contained. You can spend the morning outside, disappear into the thermal area, then decide whether dinner calls for Mediterranean cooking, tapas or sushi. No need to negotiate the evening in a damp T-shirt.

You are in Port de Sóller, on Mallorca's north-west coast, at a clifftop address beside the sea. The hotel looks across Port de Sóller Bay towards the Mediterranean, while the Serra de Tramuntana UNESCO World Heritage landscape is around 3.5 miles away by road. This is a hillside location, not a hotel set directly on a sandy beach.

Port de Sóller Beach is about 0.5 miles away on foot, and Playa d'en Repic is roughly 1.4 miles away walking. Sóller station is around 3.5 miles away by road, with the Can Tambor rail station at a similar distance. Palma de Mallorca Airport is about 21 miles away by road, usually around a 35-minute drive. Valldemossa takes about 25 minutes by car.

The useful choice is not simply between room names; it is between what you want to look at when the curtains open. Mountain-facing rooms turn towards the Tramuntana, while sea-facing rooms look across the Mediterranean and Port de Sóller. For two people, the double rooms with super-king beds keep things straightforward. If you want more room to spread out, the junior suites add space for up to three guests, while the Mar Blau Villa brings two private terraces, a private pool and two bathrooms for a larger party.

Every room has air conditioning, a private balcony, free Wi-Fi, a minibar and a coffee maker. Sunset Sushi Lounge handles freshly prepared sushi, Asian-style tapas and locally inspired cocktails. There are also two poolside bars, plus a snack bar for the moments when a full meal feels like unnecessary administration.

Breakfast is served as a continental, vegetarian, gluten-free buffet, with breakfast in the room also available. Special-diet menus can be arranged, and the minibar and in-room tea and coffee facilities cover the basic post-dive requirements without sending you straight back into civilisation. Breakfast is included only when eaten in the restaurant, so check the arrangement attached to your chosen booking.

Es Fanals serves dinner from Tuesday to Saturday between 19:30 and 21:30, with smart-casual dress. Its open-air setting and Mediterranean menu make it the evening for sitting down properly; Sunset Sushi Lounge is the less predictable alternative when you have had enough of the usual holiday plate. The hotel also runs themed dinner nights and live music or performances.

The infinity pool is the main reason to stop moving, with the bay and mountains supplying the scenery. It is for guests aged sixteen and over, so it offers a quieter place to lie down with a book or stare into the middle distance. Sun loungers, umbrellas, pool towels and a sun terrace are available around the outdoor areas.

For a more deliberate recovery session, Talise Spa has a hammam, heated hydropool and thermal area, alongside a relaxation lounge, sauna and steam room. Spa access is included, while massages and treatments cover everything from back, neck and foot massages to full-body and couples' massages. There is also a fitness centre, yoga and fitness classes, a personal trainer and an open-air bath.

When sitting still becomes too ambitious, you can book walking tours, bike tours, cooking classes or local-culture tours. Hiking and cycling are available in the surrounding area, and the hotel can arrange experiences such as a private helicopter tour over the Tramuntana mountains. Families have the Barbaroja kids' club for children aged three to twelve, as well as children's meals, a playground, indoor play space and board games.

Check-in starts at 15:00 and check-out is by 12:00. You will need photo identification and a payment card at arrival, and the hotel asks you to share your expected arrival time. Airport transfers are available through the hotel, and a shuttle service to Port de Sóller is also available. Arrange either service with the hotel before travelling.
