Near Garden, Sharm El Sheikh: Red Sea Reef and Wall Dive

Near Garden begins with a sandy plateau, a gentle introduction to a dive site known for its lively topography, situated a mere five minutes boat ride from Naama Bay. This initial sand flat establishes itself at approximately 15 metres, serving as a transitional zone before the true character of the dive site reveals itself. While navigating this area, you'll feel the gentle push and pull of the ocean, an early indication of the currents that shape life here.

As you continue your descent, the sandy expanse gives way to a more dramatic feature: a steep wall that plunges deeper, reaching a maximum recorded depth of 25 metres. This shift in topography marks the prime exploration zone, where the reef organisms thrive and larger marine species are drawn in by the currents. The vertical face of the wall is a canvas of corals and crevices, each nook potentially harboring a new discovery for the observant diver.

It's on this wall and along the deeper sandy sections that you'll have some of your most memorable encounters. Keep a keen eye out for the characteristic form of the spotted stingray (Himantura undulata), often resting camouflaged against the seabed. Napoleon wrasse (Cheilinus undulatus), with their distinctive humped foreheads, are common, gracefully moving through the water column, unperturbed by divers.

Triggerfish are also a regular presence, displaying their vibrant colours and territorial behaviours along the reef. Beyond the reef's immediate inhabitants, Near Garden is among the sites in Sharm el Sheikh where you stand a good chance of spotting larger pelagic species. Reef sharks, specifically grey reef sharks (Carcharhinus amblyrhynchos), are known to make occasional passes, patrolling the edge where the wall meets the open blue. You might also spot eagle rays (Aetobatus narinari) gliding effortlessly in the current.
