Blue Ocean Abu Dabbab

Located within the Abu Dabbab marine reserve, Blue Ocean Abu Dabbab serves as a gateway to some of the most diverse ecosystems in the Red Sea. The centre is positioned in a unique bay north of Marsa Alam, offering immediate access to both shallow reef flats and more remote offshore sites.

Whether you are looking for a relaxed day of reef exploration or a more challenging drift dive, the centre operates with a focus on skill development and marine conservation. Their location allows for a seamless transition between the sheltered seagrass meadows of the bay and the high-energy walls of the outer reefs.

With 14 years of experience in the Red Sea, the Blue Ocean team operates with a multilingual staff of international instructors. They are equipped to guide divers through everything from their first Discover Scuba Diving session to professional-level training.

The team provides instruction in English, German, French, Russian, and Serbian. This multilingual approach ensures that technical details and safety briefings are communicated clearly to a diverse range of divers.

Blue Ocean offers a comprehensive PADI curriculum catering to all experience levels. Beginners can start with Bubblemaker, Seal Team, or Discover Scuba Diving, progressing through Open Water Diver, Scuba Diver, and Adventure Diver.

For those looking to advance, the centre provides Advanced Open Water Diver, Rescue Diver, and various specialty courses including Enriched Air Nitrox, Deep Diver, Drift Diver, Night Diver, Wreck Diver, and Sidemount Specialty. Professional training is also available, covering Divemaster, Assistant Instructor, Instructor Development Course (IDC), and PADI Specialty Instructor paths.

The centre utilises a fleet of modern boats, including speedboats for quick access to nearby sites like Shaab Abu Dabbab and Marsa Egla. For those looking for more extensive itineraries, they also operate the Lady M, a renovated liveaboard vessel with a capacity for 22 divers and 12 cabins.

The Lady M is fully equipped for technical and recreational diving, carrying Nitrox and offering 12-litre and 15-litre cylinders. This makes it a reliable platform for longer trips to more remote locations like the Brothers Islands or Daedalus Reef.

The centre provides a complete range of equipment for hire, allowing you to travel light. Their shore-based facilities include a dedicated dive shop and full equipment rental services.

The marine life in the Abu Dabbab area is exceptionally diverse, particularly within the seagrass meadows and coral gardens. You can regularly encounter green sea turtles (Chelonia mydas), Dugong (Dugong dugon), and various species of rays, including the Southern stingray (Hypanus americanus) and blue-spotted stingrays.

The reefs are home to a vast array of colourful fish such as Angelfish (Pomacanthidae), Butterflyfish (Chaetodon), and various species of Wrasse (Labridae). Larger pelagics, including Grey reef shark (Carcharhinus amblyrhynchos), Silvertip shark, and various species of Tuna (Thunnus), are often seen in the deeper blue.

For macro enthusiasts, the sites offer plenty of smaller treasures. Keep an eye out for Nudibranch (Chromodoris willani), Seahorse (Hippocampus kuda), Scorpionfish (Scorpaenidae), and various species of Octopus (Octopus vulgaris), alongside Stonefish (Synanceia) and Ghost pipefish (Solenostomidae).

The hard and soft coral architecture provides the foundation for this ecosystem, with massive colonies of hard corals (Scleractinia), gorgonians, and colourful sponges (Porifera) creating complex habitats for all the resident species.

Conditions vary significantly depending on the site. While the bays like Marsa Abu Dabbab offer sheltered, calm waters, offshore sites such as Elphinstone and Giftun Islands are known for strong currents that require more experienced divers.

Some reefs, like Shaab Maksur and Shalaniat, typically experience milder currents, making them suitable for a wider range of experience levels. Divers should always be prepared for the varying exposure levels of the different reef structures.
