East End Dive Club

East End Dive Club is situated on the eastern side of Roatan, Honduras, specifically at the Paya Bay Resort. This location provides a strategic gateway to the East End, an area renowned for its dramatic underwater topography, including steep walls, deep canyons, and healthy coral ecosystems.

The reefs are defined by a rich tapestry of fixed life. You will encounter extensive displays of Sea fan (Gorgoniidae), various Sponges (Porifera), and brain corals. The architecture of the reef is further enhanced by pillar coral, fire coral, leaf corals, and sea whip, providing essential habitats for the local fauna.

Large pelagics and reef residents are frequently seen patrolling the walls. Keep an eye out for Caribbean reef sharks, Eagle ray (Aetobatus), and large groupers (Epinephelus). Schools of Jack (Carangidae), yellowfin tuna, and various Snapper (Lutjanus) add constant movement to the water column.

For those interested in macro life, the crevices and sandy patches hold a wealth of smaller creatures. You can find Nudibranch (Chromodoris willani), Seahorse (Hippocampus kuda), and various species of Octopus (Octopus vulgaris). Look closely for Spiny lobster (Palinuridae), Mantis shrimp, and even the occasional pink flamingo sea slug among the corals.

Smaller reef inhabitants include the ubiquitous blue chromis, creole wrasse, and various species of parrotfish (Calotomus). You might also spot garden eels (Gorgasia) swaying in the current or the delicate movements of cleaner shrimp (Lysmata) on the reef face.

The East End offers a variety of diving environments, from easy shore dives on the reef flat to more challenging boat excursions. The topography is dominated by deep walls and canyons, which can influence local water movement.
