Grand Bleu Diving

Grand Bleu Diving is situated on the beach at Sandy Bay, Roatan, offering direct access to the island's renowned reef systems. Founded in 2018 by a Quebecois owner, the centre has established a professional, family-oriented atmosphere for divers of all experience levels.

The centre focuses on providing a high standard of safety and service, particularly through its commitment to small group sizes. By limiting groups to four divers per guide, the instructors ensure attentive supervision and a more personalised experience on the water.

The team is composed of highly qualified instructors who are proficient in English, French, and Spanish. This multilingual capability ensures clear communication during briefings and throughout the training process, which is essential for both novice and advanced divers.

Instruction is conducted under the PADI framework, covering everything from initial certifications to advanced specialties. The centre maintains a strict ratio of one guide for every four divers, ensuring that even in more complex environments, you have the necessary support.

The training programme follows the PADI curriculum, catering to divers at every stage of their progression. For those starting their journey, the Open Water Diver course provides the essential foundations of scuba diving.

More advanced divers can progress through the Advanced Open Water Diver course or specialise with the Nitrox course to take advantage of enriched air diving. The centre is equipped to handle these various levels of certification with professional guidance.

The centre provides high-quality rental kit, specifically featuring regulators and equipment from Apeks and Aqualung. This ensures that divers who do not wish to travel with their own heavy gear can rely on dependable, well-maintained hardware.

Nitrox is available on-site for divers looking to extend their bottom time. For those staying on the property, the centre offers comfortable accommodation including apartments and rooms, with a shared equipped kitchen and barbecue facilities available for communal use.

The reefs are characterised by a rich variety of hard and soft corals, including pillar coral, brain coral (Diploria), and various sea whips. You will find a diverse array of sponges, such as barrel sponge and elephant ear sponge, alongside gorgonian (Gorgonacea) fans and black corals (Antipatharia) that provide structure for the local ecosystem.

In the water column and along the reef, you can encounter various pelagic and reef species. Look out for Caribbean reef sharks (Carcharhinus perezi), nurse sharks (Ginglymostoma cirratum), and spotted eagle rays (Aetobatus narinari). Schools of fish such as jack (Carangidae), blue chromis, and various snappers (Lutjanidae) are common, alongside larger visitors like yellowfin tuna and barracuda (Sphyraena).

Macro life and smaller creatures are abundant for those who enjoy searching the reef structure. The area is home to nudibranchs (Chromodoris willani), seahorses (Hippocampus), and various crustaceans including lobster (Homaridae), spiny lobster (Palinuridae), and mantis shrimp. You may also spot garden eels (Gorgasia), pygmy filefish, and various species of shrimp and crabs tucked into the coral.
