Mayan Divers

Located on the pristine sands of West Bay, Mayan Divers provides direct access to some of the most celebrated diving in Roatan, Honduras. As a PADI 5 Star Instructor Development Resort, the centre is positioned to support divers at every stage of their journey, from those taking their first breaths underwater to professionals pursuing advanced career certifications.

The centre is integrated with the Mayan Princess Beach & Dive Resort, offering a seamless transition from the water to on-site accommodation including villas and studios. This location places you at the heart of the island's diving scene, with easy access to the reef systems that define the Caribbean experience.

The team at Mayan Divers is composed of expert instructors and divemasters dedicated to maintaining high safety standards and providing personalised attention. For those seeking a more private experience, a private Divemaster is available upon request to lead groups of up to four divers.

Instruction is conducted in both English and Spanish, ensuring clear communication for a wide range of international divers. Whether you are completing a recreational course or an intensive professional programme, the staff focuses on technical precision and individual diver needs.

As an Instructor Development Centre, the facility offers an extensive curriculum of PADI courses. Beginners can start with Discover Scuba Diving or the Open Water Diver course, while more experienced divers can progress through Advanced Open Water, Deep Diver, and Wreck specialties.

Professional training is a core component of the centre, with programmes available for those pursuing the Divemaster certification or the PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC). Specialist training in Navigation and Nitrox is also provided to refine technical skills.

The centre provides a comprehensive range of rental kit for those not travelling with their own equipment. This includes BCDs, regulators, masks, fins, wetsuits, dive computers, and torches for night diving. Snorkelling kits are also available for use on the reef flat.

Nitrox is available on-site for divers looking to extend their bottom times. The facility is designed to support both single-tank and two-tank dive profiles, with scheduled departures for morning, afternoon, and night dives.

The reefs around Roatan are teeming with life, from large pelagics to delicate reef residents. You will regularly encounter Eagle ray (Aetobatus) and various species of turtles, including Green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas) and Loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta). Schools of Jack (Carangidae), snapper (Lutjanus), and various reef fish create a constant sense of movement along the walls.

For those interested in larger predators, the area is home to Caribbean reef sharks, Nurse shark (Ginglymostoma cirratum), and Great barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda). You may also spot large groupers (Epinephelus), yellowfin tuna, and large tarpons patrolling the deeper sections of the reef.

Macro enthusiasts will find plenty to observe in the crevices and seagrass. The environment supports a variety of crustaceans such as Spiny lobster (Palinuridae), Lobster (Homaridae), and various species of shrimp, including Cleaner shrimp (Lysmata) and striped coral shrimp. Keep an eye out for Octopus (Octopus vulgaris), Seahorse (Hippocampus kuda), and various nudibranchs.

The seabed is a complex landscape of hard and soft corals. You will see massive brain corals, pillar coral, and sea fans (Gorgoniidae), alongside various sponges (Porifera) and sea whips that provide essential habitat for smaller creatures like garden eels (Gorgasia), scorpionfish (Scorpaenidae), and pygmy filefish.
