Roatan Ocean Divers

Ocean Divers is situated in the Sandy Bay community on the northern coast of Roatan, Honduras. The centre serves as a local hub for the diving community, providing access to the diverse reef systems that characterise this part of the island.

As a PADI affiliated centre, the operation focuses on both recreational exploration and formal training. The location allows for easy access to the surrounding marine habitats, making it a practical base for those looking to explore the local reef flat and nearby underwater structures.

The centre is led by Rolando Bodden and features a team including an experienced PADI instructor, Velvet. The staff's connection to the local environment is strengthened through their collaboration with the Roatan Marine Park.

Instruction is provided in both English and Spanish. The centre caters to a wide range of divers, from those looking to take their first breaths underwater to more advanced students seeking specialised certifications.

The centre offers a comprehensive curriculum of PADI courses. Beginners can start with the PADI Scuba Diver Course or the Full Open Water Course, with E-Learning options available for the Open Water certification to allow for more time in the water.

For those looking to progress, the centre provides the Advance Open Water Course and the PADI Rescue Course. Specialised training is also available through the Enrich-Nitrox Course, alongside EFR training.

A full range of diving equipment is available for hire, covering the essential kit required for reef diving. This includes regulators, BCDs, and exposure suits to suit the local conditions.

For those looking to extend their bottom time or manage decompression limits, Nitrox is available on-site.

The local reefs are home to a diverse array of fish, including various species of Snappers (Lutjanidae), Parrotfish (Calotomus), and Blue Chromis. You will often see schools of silversides, Jacks (Carangidae), and various reef fish navigating the coral structures.

Predators and larger species also frequent the area, including Caribbean reef sharks (Carcharhinus perezi), Nurse sharks (Ginglymostoma cirratum), and large groupers. You may also encounter Barracuda (Sphyraena), Yellowfin tuna, and various species of Grouper (Epinephelinae).

The reef architecture is built from a variety of hard and soft corals, including Brain coral (Diploria), Pillar coral, and various Soft coral (Alcyonacea) species. Gorgonian (Gorgonacea) fans and sea whips provide intricate habitats for smaller creatures.

For those interested in macro life, the area hosts Nudibranch (Chromodoris willani), Seahorse (Hippocampus), and various crustaceans such as Spiny lobster (Palinuridae) and Mantis shrimp. You can also find Octopus (Octopus vulgaris), Scorpionfish (Scorpaenidae), and various species of shrimp and crabs among the reef crevices.
