Acapulco city centre is about a ten-minute drive away, as is El Veladero National Park. For a change of table, La Casona Chilapeña and Tacos Sabroso are both within roughly half a mile, and the Caleta bar area is about half a mile away. General Juan N Alvarez International Airport is about 17 miles by road, with a drive of around 25 minutes.

The practical choice is between a pool view and an ocean view. Pick the latter if you want the balcony to do some of the holiday work; choose the pool side if the room is mainly a base for showering, eating something cold and getting horizontal. The rooms with two double beds make sense for families or travelling companions who would rather not negotiate a single bed after a long day.

Air conditioning matters in Acapulco, particularly when you return warm, salty and ready to stop being active. The refrigerator is useful for keeping water cold, while the dining area gives you somewhere more civilised than the edge of the bed for a snack or a packed lunch. Five outdoor pools give you more than one place to spend a non-diving afternoon, including the distinctive sea pool. Pool and beach towels, sun loungers and beach chairs are available, and the water slide changes the pace when simply sitting still has reached its natural limit.

The garden and terraces provide room to sit out, while entertainment staff add organised activity around the hotel. Fishing is available for those who prefer their time on the water to involve a little patience. A golf course is located within 3 kilometres, giving you an option that does not require turning the day into another expedition.

For families, there is an outdoor children’s play area and outdoor play equipment. The hotel also has a tour desk, so excursions and local plans can be dealt with without turning the reception desk into a daily research project. Poolside rest, in other words, is perfectly acceptable here; no one needs a second full programme after a demanding day.
