You can also reach Parque Municipal de la Juventud in around 20 minutes on foot. The Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo International Airport is about 9 miles away by road.

At night, air conditioning, a fan, a wardrobe and tiled or marble flooring keep the essentials uncomplicated. Private bathrooms have walk-in showers, towels and toiletries. Upper floors are reached by stairs only, a small point that matters more when you are carrying luggage than it does on the booking screen. Flat-screen television with cable channels and free WiFi cover the quieter part of the evening.

The Bistro handles the three main meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner. Its cooking is international, with fresh local ingredients, and the setting is a terrace with an ocean view. The dress code is casual, which is useful when the day has involved salt, sun and considerably less ironing than usual.

For the post-water routine, Spa Isabel offers massages, facials and body treatments. A gym and yoga provide the more active alternatives, while golf and cultural excursions take you beyond the immediate beach setting. Babysitting and a children's menu are available for family groups, although the overall arrangement still works just as well for a couple who would rather alternate between the pool, a treatment and a chair with no timetable attached.

You can also use the free WiFi throughout the hotel, which is handy for checking the next day's arrangements while the pool bar does the more important work.

Check-in runs from 15:00 to 20:00, and you need to give the property your expected arrival time in advance. A photo ID and credit card are required at check-in. Check-out is from 08:00 to 12:00, so early departures are possible within that window, provided your onward arrangements match it.
