The mood is relaxed and informal, with a white-sand cove, garden surroundings and plenty of room to slow down between dives. You can swim, sit under an umbrella, take a kayak out or simply claim a chair and let the day become pleasantly unproductive. Five dogs and cats belonging to the owners usually mingle with guests, so animal lovers will have extra company on the way to dinner.

You are in Sitio Bas Dako, Barangay Candabong, in the municipality of Anda, Bohol, Philippines. The resort sits directly on the sea, on a 300-metre white-sand beach bordered by green hills. It is at the eastern end of Bohol, away from the island's busier tourist areas; here, the map is more beach, jungle and reef than shops and traffic.

Anda municipality is about a ten-minute drive away, with Anda Plaza around 4 miles from the resort. Lara Beach is roughly 2 miles away, while the nearby restaurants listed around Anda are several miles from the property. In practical terms, you have a proper restaurant and bar on site, but you are not staying in a town-centre hotel where you can wander out and browse a row of cafés.

Tagbilaran Airport is approximately a two-hour drive away. The resort can arrange an airport shuttle, making the transfer part of the booking rather than a puzzle to solve after a long flight.

The rooms are built for the part of the day when your priorities become very straightforward: somewhere cool to sit, somewhere secure to leave your things and a bed that does not require negotiation. Air conditioning, a seating area, desk, flat-screen cable television, minibar and electric kettle cover the useful basics, while the private bathroom has a shower and complimentary toiletries.

For a couple, the Deluxe King Room with Ocean View gives you a super-king bed and a sea-facing outlook. One full-service restaurant handles breakfast, lunch and dinner, with light snacks available as well. The menu takes a Western-style approach to fusion cooking, combining family recipes, classic techniques and locally grown ingredients. Breakfast is à la carte and included in the bed-and-breakfast arrangement, with continental, vegetarian, gluten-free and American choices available.

The restaurant sits on a terrace overlooking the infinity pool, beach, sea and distant Camiguin Island. That gives you somewhere to sit down properly rather than treating dinner as a refuelling stop, although the kitchen is still practical enough for divers who have returned hungry and sun-worn. You can swim properly, cool off briefly or occupy a lounger and make a convincing argument that resting is an activity. Sun loungers, beach chairs and umbrellas are available around the pool and beach.

The 300-metre private beach gives you more than a photographic backdrop. Snorkelling, kayaking and paddleboarding are available, and boat excursions can take you away from the immediate cove. If your legs still have an opinion after several dives, cycling and hiking offer a change of pace without requiring another timetable.

Hilotarium Spa sits on a rocky overhang above the beach, with massage and aromatherapy based on the Filipino hilot tradition. The open-sided setting lets you hear the waves and feel the sea breeze during treatments, which is a reasonably efficient way to stop discussing the next dive. Spa massage services run from 9am to 5pm.

For a day away from the water, excursions include Anda, Lamanok Island, the Chocolate Hills, the Tarsier sanctuary, Candijay waterfalls, the Cadapdapan rice terraces and Cabagnow Cave. Wildlife observation and cultural outings are also available, giving non-diving days a little more shape than simply moving from pool to bar.
