Manami Resort

Five hectares bring together coastline, jungle, hills, forest and reef at Manami Resort. The property is built where the hillside meets the sea, with 18 villas and suites designed around views of the ocean or the surrounding landscape. It is a nature-focused resort rather than a town hotel, so you come here for space, scenery and a slower rhythm between dives.

The mood is discreet and close to the landscape, with local craftsmanship worked into the design. Hand-finished bamboo stems form natural canopies, while private balconies give you somewhere to sit with a drink, a book or the familiar post-dive expression of someone who has just remembered that gravity exists. Families are welcome, and the larger accommodation works particularly well when you want room to spread out rather than stack bags in a corner.

You are in Barangay Cayhagan, within Sipalay City, Negros Occidental, Philippines. The resort sits directly by the sea, with the coast on one side and thick natural surroundings rising behind it. The beach is short and small: useful for getting close to the water, but not the place to plan long swimming sessions. The infinity pool does more of the practical swimming work.

Sipalay City Public Park, Bacuyangan Public Plaza and several restaurants are around five miles away by the surfaced distance. R. Torita Kapehan is also around five miles away, as are Pakals Bar and Grill, Kylas Restaurant and The Mixed Food Restaurant. You therefore have alternatives beyond the resort, but the setting is built around staying on site rather than wandering out for every meal.

The accommodation is set up for more than simply dropping a dive bag beside the bed. Every room has air conditioning, a private bathroom, a balcony, a minibar and a television, along with toiletries. The private outdoor space gives you a place to dry off, sit down and watch the light change, while the air conditioning deals with the less romantic business of recovering from warm, salty water.

For a couple, a sea-view suite is the natural choice if the view matters more than having separate sleeping areas. A pool-view suite makes more sense when you expect to spend time between the room and the main swimming area. If you are travelling as a family or with friends, the Two-Bedroom Suite or Two-Bedroom Villa gives you two bedrooms and two bathrooms, with enough separation to preserve civil relations before breakfast.

Floor-to-ceiling windows feature in the resort’s accommodation design, opening the landscape into the room. Some villas also have private infinity pools, which changes the end of the day rather nicely: a quiet swim, a shower, then the minibar while your kit of ordinary clothing is still trying to remember how to behave. Non-smoking rooms are available.

Lingaw Restaurant handles breakfast, lunch and dinner, with an ocean view that gives the evening meal a useful backdrop without asking you to dress it up with a speech. Breakfast is served as a buffet, with fresh pastries, pancakes, cheese, fruit and juice. That is the sort of spread that lets you build a proper plate before heading out, rather than discovering halfway through the morning that coffee was not, in fact, a food group.

The kitchen combines Negrense and Spanish cooking with international dishes. Fresh catch served from sea to table, paella prepared at the table, sisig, inasal and truffle pasta all feature among the culinary choices, alongside ice cream. You can therefore keep things local, go Spanish, or take the international escape route when your appetite has stopped making coherent decisions.

There is one bar: Hunas Sunset Deck and Bar, beside the main pool. It is a wooden deck beneath the natural canopy of the surrounding trees, serving traditional drinks, local-flavour infusions, Spanish pintxos and tapas. Happy hour runs from 16:00 to 19:00, giving you a clear target for the first drink after the boat, while the ocean horizon supplies the changing light.

The main infinity pool is the obvious landing place when you want water without a mask, regulator or briefing. Pool and beach towels are available, and the adjacent Hunas deck lets you move from a swim to a drink without turning the afternoon into an expedition. The beach is directly accessible too, although its short, small shape makes it better suited to sitting near the sea than swimming lengths.

Linong Spa is set higher up in the forested hills, with individual and couples’ wellness cocoons. Massages are available there, and in-room massages give you the less strenuous option when your legs have already had enough opinion for one day. The spa setting adds a change of pace without requiring a separate trip away from the resort.

When you want a little more structure, you can take out a kayak or paddleboard, join a boat excursion, follow mangrove trails, go island hopping or explore the nature around the property. A cave on site allows for caving, while wildlife observation and day visits provide alternatives for a non-diving day. The resort also has a concierge and the Tam-is Gift Shop for locally sourced craft pieces.

The usual road transfer from Dumaguete-Sibulan Airport or Bacolod-Silay Airport takes three to four hours by chauffeured car. An airport shuttle can be arranged with the resort, and charter flights to Sipalay’s San Jose Airstrip are possible, followed by a chauffeured road transfer. This is a destination to plan as part of the trip rather than a place to reach casually between two airport lounges.

Check-in runs from 15:00 to 23:30, with check-out by 12:00. A 24-hour front desk is available, and room service gives you a way to eat without leaving the room when the day has taken more out of you than expected. Free private parking is available on site, with no reservation required.

Children of any age are welcome. Children aged 13 and over are charged as adults, while an adult extra bed can be requested; cots and extra beds for children are not available. Pets are not allowed. The resort also provides free Wi-Fi throughout the property, alongside concierge assistance and the gift shop.
