View Point Resort

You come to View Point Resort for the combination of a beachfront setting, a private beach area and a garden laid out for taking the pace down a notch. The resort sits on Koh Tao, with sea views from several room categories and enough outdoor space to make the return from a busy day feel less like an arrival at a building and more like a return to the island.

The tone is suited to couples, with large beds in the double rooms and private outdoor space in selected categories. Families can also use the larger pool villas, which sleep up to four and have two bathrooms. Add a restaurant, a bar, a pool, a spa and room service, and you have the useful parts of a dive holiday in one place: somewhere to eat, somewhere to sit, and somewhere to stop talking about logistics for a while.

View Point Resort has direct beachfront access and its own private beach area, so you do not need to make a separate trip simply to put your feet in the sand. Chalok Baan Kao Beach is about 500 metres away on foot, with a six-minute walk quoted for the route.

Several other beaches are within easy reach. Freedom Beach is about 1.2 miles away on foot, while Shark Bay is roughly 0.9 miles away and around 17 minutes on foot. Sai Nuan Beach is about 0.8 miles away by car, and Jansom Bay is around 1.3 miles away on foot. For food and drinks beyond the resort, Pirate Bar is about 0.2 miles away on foot, while Big Bite Burger & Bar, Koppee Espresso Bar & Restaurant and The V.Nizza are all within roughly 0.5 to 0.7 miles.

For a straightforward couple's stay, the sea-view double rooms keep things simple: a super-king-size bed, air-conditioning, a private bathroom and the prospect of waking up with the water in view. The Deluxe Double Room with Balcony and Sea View gives you more outdoor space, which matters on an island where the balcony can become the place for the first coffee and the last look at the day.

The cottages with garden views are the quieter, more contained choice if the garden matters more to you than a sea-facing outlook. When you want room to spread out, the pool villas are the step up: private pool space, a private bathroom and considerably more room than the standard double-room categories. Pool Villa 3 and Pool Villa 8 sleep up to four and have two bathrooms, making them the practical options for a small family or two divers who prefer not to negotiate over every square metre of floor.

Every room category comes with the basics that earn their keep in a warm climate: air-conditioning, free WiFi, a minibar and free toiletries. Balconies and terraces appear in selected categories. After salt, sun and a long day outside, the useful luxury is not a decorative flourish; it is being able to cool down, shut the door and let the room do its job.

The Cape Restaurant & Bar handles breakfast, lunch and dinner, with an international menu and ingredients sourced from selected suppliers, organic where possible. Herbs grown on site add a small link to the garden rather than leaving the food entirely anonymous. The restaurant also serves Thai cuisine, including vegan options, so you can keep dinner local when that is what you have come back hungry for.

Breakfast is included and comes in American and buffet styles, with juice and pancakes among the breakfast choices. It is served in your room, a useful arrangement when an early start makes sitting down in a restaurant feel like an unnecessary expedition.

There is a bar on site as well as the restaurant. Room service is available, giving you the option of eating without changing out of whatever passed for respectable clothing after the sea.

The free-form turquoise pool is surrounded by stone features and is designed for exactly the sort of low-effort recovery that works well on a diving holiday. Sun loungers and beach chairs are available, while the garden and beachfront give you two different places to settle with a book, a drink or no particular plan at all.

Chillax Hut offers massage treatments when your shoulders have had enough of carrying bags, cameras and the general consequences of choosing diving as a hobby. Yoga is also available, along with a Thai cooking class for an activity that keeps you on land but gives the evening a purpose.

If you want to get back on the water without putting on a full set of equipment, the resort can arrange a private snorkelling trip around the island in a longtail boat. Snorkelling and boat excursions are part of the activities on offer. The private beach area is the simpler alternative: no timetable, no briefing, just sand and sea.

Check-in runs from 14:00 to midnight, and the hotel's own policy gives 11:00 as the check-out time. The front desk operates around the clock, with luggage storage available if your travel day does not line up neatly with those hours. Private parking is available on site, and free WiFi covers the resort.

A shuttle service is available and can be arranged with the resort. Samui International Airport is about 38 miles away, while Chumphon Airport is roughly 54 miles away; either way, reaching Koh Tao involves planning the island transfer rather than simply stepping into a taxi outside the terminal. The resort accepts cash, Visa, MasterCard and Thai baht.

Children older than one year are welcome, and cots or extra beds can be requested for the relevant room category. Pets are allowed on request. Non-smoking rooms are available, and the property has family rooms for those who need more than a couple's setup.
