Buceo Sur Gran Canaria

Buceo Sur Gran Canaria is established in the coastal village of Arinaga, situated on the eastern side of Gran Canaria. The centre provides access to the island's most diverse underwater landscapes, ranging from shallow reef flats to deep volcanic walls and intricate cave systems.

The local waters are characterised by temperate conditions and a volcanic seabed that creates a complex topography of arches and swim-throughs. This geography supports a high level of biodiversity, making the area a significant destination for both reef enthusiasts and those looking to explore more technical environments.

The centre is led by experienced instructors Yann and Anne, who manage both diving operations and reservations. They operate with a strong emphasis on practical underwater competence, ensuring that divers move beyond mere certification to master real-world skills.

To maintain high safety standards, the centre limits the ratio to a maximum of three divers per guide. This approach allows for personalised attention during training and more controlled exploration during guided dives.

Instruction is available in French, Spanish, English, and German, making it an accessible hub for international divers. They are affiliated with several major agencies, including SSI, FFESSM, CMAS, and ANMP, providing flexibility in training pathways.

A comprehensive range of training is available through SSI, FFESSM, ANMP, and CMAS. Beginners can start with Scuba Diver or Open Water courses, with progression paths leading through Advanced Open Water, Deep Diver, and Decompression Diving.

The curriculum also includes specialised training such as Nitrox, Orientation, and the Stress and Rescue course. For those looking to advance their professional career, Divemaster training is offered, with equipment hire available for candidates.

Technical and niche skills are also covered, including Sidemount diving and various levels of the French system, such as PE12, PE20, and PA20. Refresher courses are available for divers looking to regain their confidence before heading back into the water.

The centre offers a full range of equipment for hire, including regulators, wetsuits, fins, and masks. For those conducting night dives, torches are available to rent. Divers looking to bring only their most essential personal items can also hire dive computers.

Nitrox is available for use, and the centre provides 12-litre cylinders as standard. If you require 15-litre cylinders or double-outlet valves, these can be provided subject to availability.

The marine life around Arinaga is diverse, with reef fish, grunts, parrotfish, and moray eels being common sights. You will regularly encounter southern stingrays and porcupinefish patrolling the sandy patches and reef edges.

In more open areas or during deeper excursions, larger species appear, including great barracuda, amberjack, and tuna. The presence of angel sharks and various species of sharks, including hammerhead sharks, adds to the excitement of the local waters.

Macro life and smaller inhabitants are plentiful within the caves and crevices. Divers can find trumpetfish and various species of grouper stationed near the ledges, while more cautious species like the diodon hide within the reef structure.

The area is accessible for diving year-round, benefiting from the stable, temperate waters of the Canary Islands. The volcanic topography creates various habitats, from sheltered reefs to more open areas.

While the centre explores a wide range of sites, some locations, such as Caleta de Abajo, are dependent on favourable weather and sea conditions to ensure safe and enjoyable diving.
