Leagues Ahead Diving

Located in the sunny southern part of Gran Canaria, Leagues Ahead Diving operates out of Playa del Ingles. The centre is situated near the Pro Surfing area, providing easy access for those staying in the surrounding coastal towns.

Since its establishment in 2017, the centre has focused on building a relaxed, family-oriented atmosphere. The facility itself is designed with a coastal aesthetic, using handmade furniture crafted from recycled wood to reflect a commitment to ocean conservation.

The team consists of five qualified instructors, ensuring a high standard of supervision and training. To maintain a safe and personalised environment, the centre operates with a maximum ratio of four divers per guide.

Instruction is available in English, Swedish, and Norwegian. The staff covers the full spectrum of PADI training, from initial certifications to professional development.

As a PADI 5 Star centre, Leagues Ahead Diving offers a comprehensive curriculum. This includes beginner courses such as Discover Scuba Diving, Scuba Diver, and Open Water Diver, through to Advanced Open Water Diver and Deep Diver.

For those looking to progress professionally, the centre provides Rescue Diver training, Divemaster courses, and Divemaster internships. They also offer Emergency First Response training and Scuba Dive Refresher sessions for those looking to brush up on their skills.

The centre provides a full range of high-end Cressi equipment for hire, including wetsuits, regulators, and BCDs. Divers can also rent masks, snorkels, and fins if required.

A dedicated wet room is available for divers to change into their wetsuits and boots with privacy before heading to the dive sites. All rental equipment is maintained and cleaned using specialised Cressi disinfectants for both neoprene and regulators.

The volcanic reefs and rock formations are home to a diverse array of larger species. You can regularly encounter various sharks, including angel sharks, which are particularly present during the spring, as well as stingrays, eagle rays, and manta rays. Large schools of fish, including barracuda, tuna, and jacks, move through the deeper waters around the arches and wrecks.

Macro life is abundant throughout the area, particularly for those with a keen eye. Divers can find a variety of nudibranchs, seahorses (Hippocampus kuda), and octopuses (Octopus vulgaris) tucked into the crevices. Cuttlefish (Sepioteuthis sepioidea) and various species of crabs and shrimps also inhabit the reef structures.

The seabed and reef walls are decorated with a rich variety of fixed life. You will see various corals, gorgonians, and sea fans (Gorgoniidae) providing structure for the resident reef fish, such as parrotfish, groupers (Epinephelus), and triggerfish (Balistidae).

The local diving environment offers a range of depths and topographies, from shallow, sheltered bays like Amadores to deeper offshore sites. While many sites are protected from heavy swell, divers should be aware of the varying depths and terrain across the island's volcanic coastline.
