Scuba Sur

Located at the Anfi del Mar Resort between Arguineguín and Puerto Rico, Scuba Sur has been a fixture of the Gran Canaria diving scene for more than two decades. The centre is perfectly positioned for divers wanting to explore the diverse underwater topography of the south, from shallow volcanic reefs to deeper wreck sites.

With direct access to the marina, departures are efficient, allowing more time in the water. The centre operates a mix of boat-based excursions and shore dives from the government-designated safe zone at Anfi Beach, ensuring a versatile experience for different diving styles.

The centre is affiliated with both PADI and SSI, providing a wide range of training pathways for all levels. They focus on small group diving, maintaining a ratio of a maximum of two students per instructor to ensure close supervision and personalised attention.

Whether you are looking to complete your first Open Water Diver course or progressing through professional levels like Divemaster, the team is experienced in handling diverse student needs. They also organise trips to the northern part of the island upon request, collaborating with partner centres to maintain their established standards.

The training programme is comprehensive, covering everything from initial entry-level certifications to professional development. You can complete your Open Water Diver or Advanced Open Water Diver courses here, as well as the Rescue Diver and Divemaster programmes.

For those looking to specialise, the centre offers a variety of PADI and SSI specialty courses. These include Nitrox, Deep Diver, Wreck Diver, Night & Limited Visibility, and Peak Performance Buoyancy, alongside more technical skills like Underwater Navigator, Search & Recovery, and the Science of Diving.

The centre operates the YOLO-II, a dedicated dive boat that allows for quick departures from the marina. It carries up to 10 divers per trip, making it ideal for small, controlled groups.

From the YOLO-II, you can reach over 30 documented dive sites within 30 minutes of leaving the harbour. Nitrox is available on board for those looking to extend their no-decompression limits during the day.

Scuba Sur provides full equipment hire for divers who do not wish to travel with their own kit. This includes regulators, BCDs, wetsuits, and fins, as well as torches for night diving excursions.

Nitrox is available on-site for divers requiring enriched air. The centre is located with direct access to the marina, facilitating easy transfers of heavy cylinders and equipment.

The volcanic reefs and sheltered bays are home to a diverse array of species. You will regularly encounter stingrays, eagle rays, and various species of rays, alongside barracuda, grunts, and bream. The rocky crevices and sandy bottoms also host moray eels, octopus, and various reef fish.

Macro life is abundant throughout the southern sites. Divers can find nudibranchs, sea slugs, sea cucumbers, and various species of shrimp and crabs tucked away in the reef structures. Scorpionfish and cuttlefish are also frequently observed among the rocks.

In the deeper areas and around wrecks, look out for larger pelagics such as tuna and amberjack passing by in the blue. During the season from the end of October to the end of February, there are also opportunities to see sharks.

The area offers year-round diving, with the southern sites benefiting from the sheltered nature of the bays. Some sites, such as Arguineguín Reef, are well-suited for drift dives when the currents are favourable.

While many sites are protected, some locations like Tufia require a steep walk to reach the beach for shore entries. Most boat-based dives depart directly from the marina, providing easy access to the offshore reefs and wrecks.
