Hotel Cordial Mogán Playa

Cordial Mogán Playa is built in the style of a Canarian village, with rooms arranged through tropical gardens covering 48,000 square metres. More than 450 plant species give the grounds plenty to look at between the serious business of diving, eating and finding a comfortable chair.

You get a sizeable resort with two outdoor swimming pools, balconies attached to the rooms and several places to settle in without leaving the property. It suits you if you want diving within easy reach but also value a proper hotel around it: a spa, restaurants, evening entertainment and enough space for families and couples to follow different rhythms.

The tone is more village complex than minimalist hideaway. That matters if you like having choices after the sea has taken its share of your energy.

You are in Puerto de Mogán, Spain, on Gran Canaria's south-west coast, with the hotel set by the sea and the village close at hand. The golden-sand beach is 300 metres away, while the harbour and its canals are also around 300 metres from the property. You can reach Mogan Beach on foot in roughly 0.9 miles.

The immediate surroundings are practical rather than remote. A shopping centre and a supermarket are opposite the hotel, and restaurants and bars are close enough for a short walk: Pizzeria El Pa is around 300 feet away, as are Outlaws Mogan and Los Guayres is around 0.8 miles away. The Boulevard Piano Bar and Disco and El Encuentro are both around 400 feet away.

Gran Canaria Airport is around 31 miles away by road. If you are hiring a car, free public parking is available on site, while the hotel also has underground parking and an electric-vehicle charging station.

The balcony is the useful detail here. It gives you somewhere to sit with a drink, let the room breathe and separate your evening from the bed after a long day in the water. Air conditioning is available for warmer nights, while a flat-screen television with satellite channels, free Wi-Fi, a minibar, coffee machine and kettle cover the small practicalities.

For two people, the standard Double or Twin Room keeps things straightforward, while the Superior Twin or Double Room adds a private bathroom. The Junior Suite gives you more room to spread out, with twin beds and a sofa bed, making it the sensible step up when you want a little more space rather than simply a different view. For three, the Family Room is the clear choice: it combines two single beds with a double bed and is designed for a larger travelling party.

Bathrooms have a bath or shower, towels, toiletries and a hairdryer. Daily housekeeping takes care of the less glamorous part of a diving holiday. The hotel also offers room service between 07:30 and 22:00, useful when you want food delivered rather than another expedition through the gardens.

Breakfast is served as a buffet, which is the right format when your morning has to accommodate both an early start and a diver-sized appetite. The hotel has four restaurants. Tamarona handles buffet dining, while Los Guayres offers à-la-carte traditional Canarian dishes and carries one Michelin star.

There are two pool bars, a lounge bar and a terrace, plus a snack bar for the moments when dinner is still too far away but patience has already left the building. Special-diet menus are available on request. Half-board and full-board options exist, although drinks during dinner are not included with those arrangements.

The restaurant has a dress code: shorts, sandals and sleeveless shirts are not allowed. Pack something more respectable than the T-shirt that has survived the boat, or the evening may end at the bar before it begins.

Two outdoor pools give you a choice of water without requiring another trip to the coast, and the pools are heated during the winter period. There are also jacuzzis, sun loungers, umbrellas, pool towels, a sun terrace and gardens, so you can make an afternoon of doing very little without having to justify it.

Inagua Spa & Wellness provides the slower option, with a hot tub, sauna, hammam, relaxation area and massages among its facilities. The fitness centre is there if your idea of recovery involves more deliberate movement. Otherwise, the open-air bath and solarium make a stronger case for sitting still.

When you want something more active, the property offers tennis, cycling, walking tours, table tennis, billiards and water-sport facilities. Tennis equipment, the court, bicycle hire, billiards and water sports are chargeable. Live music, evening entertainment and daytime activities keep the resort moving after dark, while the giant chess set, bowling, trampolines and archaeological park Las Crucecitas give families more to do than simply queue for the pool.

Check-in starts at 15:00 and check-out runs until 12:00, giving you a useful amount of time on departure day before you have to hand back the key. The reception is open around the clock, and luggage storage is available if your flight and room times refuse to cooperate.

Free Wi-Fi covers the hotel. You also have an on-site cash machine, a tour desk, car hire, daily housekeeping and laundry services. A doctor can be requested, and the property has a meeting room for guests who have somehow managed to bring work to Gran Canaria.

Children of all ages are welcome, with a kids' club for ages four to twelve, a children's pool, playground, indoor play area and games room. A cot can be requested, subject to the selected accommodation, while extra beds are not available. Pets are not allowed, apart from guide dogs. If you are travelling with a child aged thirteen or over, the hotel treats that child as an adult for its policies.

The documented environmental information here is tied to investment projects rather than a named certification. The hotel has taken part in projects supported through the Canary Islands' tourism resilience programme and financed through the European Union's Next Generation EU framework.

The projects include investment in spa, gym and solarium equipment, as well as the replacement of terrace awnings and the renewal of loungers and cushions. The awnings and outdoor furniture are the details you will actually encounter during a poolside afternoon, even if grant paperwork is less likely to make the holiday photo album.
