Archipel Plongée

Archipel Plongée is a year-round dive centre situated in Argelès-sur-Mer, positioned perfectly to access the diverse underwater topography of the Mediterranean coast. The centre operates across a wide range of environments, from the sheltered bays near Port-Vendres to the more exposed, nutrient-rich reefs of the Banyuls-Cerbère Nature Reserve.

Whether you are looking to complete your first certification or you are a technical diver seeking out historic wrecks, the centre provides the infrastructure to support your progression. The proximity to various sites allows for efficient boat trips, ensuring more time in the water exploring the rocky reefs and deep-water wrecks that define this region.

Affiliated with SSI (Scuba Schools International), the centre provides ISO-standard training that allows for easy recognition of your qualifications worldwide. The team is composed of specialists dedicated to marine ecology and professional diving, offering a flexible approach to training that adapts to your specific goals.

The centre caters to a wide demographic, including dedicated children's programmes and professional training paths for those aiming for Dive Master or Assistant Instructor roles. They also maintain a strong commitment to environmental preservation through partnerships with SSI Blue Oceans and various marine conservation initiatives.

The training catalogue is extensive, covering the entire SSI spectrum. Beginners can start with Scuba Diver or Open Water Diver, while those looking to refine their skills can take courses such as Perfect Buoyancy, Navigation, and Deep Diving.

For more advanced divers, the centre offers specialised training in Wreck Diving, Advanced Wreck Diving, Decompression Diving, and Recreational Sidemount Diving. Professional candidates can work through the Dive Master and Assistant Instructor programmes. There is also a strong emphasis on scientific diving, with various e-Learning modules available in marine ecology, fish identification, and coral identification.

The ARCHIBLACK is a BWA 8.50M semi-rigid designed to carry up to 28 divers. It is powered by twin 200 CV Suzuki motors, providing reliable transit to the various offshore sites and wrecks.

Nitrox is available for use on board, making it a practical choice for those planning multi-dive days or deeper explorations. The boat is used for a variety of trips, including day dives, night dives, and wreck explorations.

The shore-based facilities include a high standard of breathing gas management, utilizing both COLTRI and BAUER compressors. The centre manages a variety of cylinder sizes, from 7 to 15 litres, with five buffer cylinders available for inflation.

For those travelling without their own kit, a full range of equipment is available for hire, featuring brands such as Cressi and Mares. This includes wetsuits, BCDs, regulators, and fins. The centre also provides secure storage for divers who wish to leave their personal equipment on-site.

The marine life here is defined by the rich coralligenous ecosystems and rocky reefs. You will find a high density of invertebrates, including many species of nudibranchs, lobsters, and spiny lobsters. Octopuses and various species of moray eel are frequently seen sheltering within the faults and caves.

In the open water and around the reefs, larger fish are common. You can expect to encounter various species of grouper, dentex, and seabream, alongside barracuda and snapper. Large schools of sardines and mackerel often move through the area, and it is not unusual to see Ocean sunfish (Mola mola) or even dolphins in the vicinity.

The fixed life provides a stunning backdrop to every dive. The reefs are heavily colonised by gorgonians, including red Mediterranean coral and purple sea fan, as well as various species of sea pens and sea urchins. You will also find a variety of flabellina and other nudibranchs amongst the sponges and corals.

The diving conditions vary depending on the specific site. Some areas, such as the Cap Béar, can experience fairly strong currents which act as a nutrient source for the local marine life. Other sites, like L'Anse de la Mauresque, are more sheltered from the wind and the Tramontane.

The topography ranges from shallow, sandy plateaus to deep-water wrecks and steep canyons, requiring divers to be mindful of their buoyancy and gas management, particularly when exploring the more complex reef structures.
