The coastline is the main event here. From the beach, you can walk for about three miles along the sand towards the south or north, where the shore becomes rockier. Cabo Pulmo National Park lies about five miles away by road, and the surrounding landscape is the practical definition of desert-meets-sea rather than a carefully planted hotel garden.

For a quick change of restaurant, Coral Reef Restaurant is about 0.1 mile away, with El Caballeros and La Palapa each about 0.2 mile away. Los Cabos International Airport is about 40 miles away by road. Cabo San Lucas is considerably farther, so this is a place to reach deliberately, not somewhere to drop into between two resort towns.

The room choice is mostly about how much space you want around you. The Studio is the compact option for a couple or a small group, while a Deluxe Bungalow gives you more room to spread out after a day carrying wet kit, towels and the usual collection of things that somehow multiply between boat and bedroom. The Villa is the sensible choice when four people want to share without turning the evening into a luggage-management exercise.

Every room has air conditioning and a fan, so you can cool down properly after heat, salt and a long day outside. A private bathroom, shower, towels, linen and complimentary toiletries cover the straightforward necessities. Each room also has a terrace and patio, giving you somewhere to sit outside rather than balancing a drink on the edge of the bed.

The Deluxe Room works for up to three people and includes a single and a double bed. The Studio also combines a single bed with a king-size bed. Villas and Deluxe Bungalows are the stronger choices for families or dive partners who value breathing room, while couples may prefer the smaller layout if most of the day will be spent outdoors. There are no televisions, video players or stereos in the houses, which is either a drawback or an excellent excuse to stop pretending you came to Baja to watch television.

Coral Reef Restaurant is on the seafront, with the Sea of Cortez providing the view while the kitchen gets on with the useful business of feeding you. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served there, and the menu covers traditional Mexican dishes, seafood, meat and vegetarian options alongside international cooking.

The seafood is prepared with fresh local ingredients, and the kitchen also works with produce from the area. That gives the table a clear sense of place without requiring a speech about it. After a morning in the water, lunch runs from 11:00 to 18:00; dinner follows in the evening, while breakfast is served from 08:00 to 11:00 and is ordered à la carte.

The stay is offered on a full-board basis, and dive-and-accommodation packages include all meals. A bar serves cocktails, and wine or champagne is available as an additional food-and-drink option. There is no need to plan a nightly restaurant safari: the main table is right where you are staying, and several other restaurants sit within a short walk if you fancy a change.

The year-round outdoor swimming pool gives you an easy way to cool down without making another expedition of the afternoon. Sun loungers are set out on the beach, and the patio provides a land-based place to sit when you have had enough sand, salt and serious conversation about visibility. There is also direct access to the beach for a walk rather than another session in fins.

When you want to keep moving, the resort offers kayaking, paddleboarding, boat excursions and equipment hire, as well as snorkelling and surfing. Hiking, cycling and tennis provide options away from the water, while wildlife and birdwatching fit naturally into the desert-and-coast setting. Backgammon tournaments are available for the slower part of the day, when the competitive instinct has recovered but the legs have not.

Families can use the accommodation and activities as a base for a shared stay, while couples can keep the programme loose: swim, walk the beach, sit on the patio and let the afternoon disappear. A small general store is available on site, which is handy for the sort of forgotten essentials that only become urgent once you are several miles from anywhere.

Plan your arrival rather than turning up whenever the road eventually releases you. Check-in runs from 15:00 to 21:00, and the property needs your expected arrival time in advance. Check-out is from 08:00 to 11:00. Private check-in and check-out are available, and early check-in or late check-out can be requested.

Los Cabos International Airport is about 40 miles away. An airport shuttle and other shuttle services can be arranged through the property, either privately or as a shared service, so this is worth organising before you travel. Free private parking is available nearby without a reservation, useful if you are driving down the Baja peninsula.

Telephone and internet access are limited compared with a city hotel, so download anything essential before leaving the airport. Laundry is available, daily housekeeping can be arranged, and a doctor can be requested if needed.
