The tone is lively rather than minimalist. Professional music and dance shows run every evening, while the beach, pool bars and garden give you several ways to do absolutely nothing. Cozumel Buffet changes its emphasis from evening to evening, moving through Mexican, Italian, Caribbean and international cooking. El Cedral handles lunch with international and Mexican dishes, live cooking, pasta, meat, fish, vegetables and salads.

Dinner gives you more than one route out of the buffet. El Cedral Smoke House works in a Texan style, cooking slowly over wood and indirect heat, while Las dos Marías serves Mexican dishes in a cantina setting, including cochinita pibil and rosarito al pastor. La Pagoda covers sushi, maki, ramen and teppanyaki, with sustainably sourced fish. Opening times are checked through the Iberostar app, so it is worth looking before you set off from your room.

Four named bars spread the drinking stops around the resort. La Perla Pool Bar has its counter in the pool and specialises in signature cocktails including a caipirinha; the beach bar is positioned for a drink between swims; El Patio sits in the lobby; and La Ceiba theatre bar works alongside the evening shows. A snack bar stays open between lunch and dinner. Plant-based and gluten-free choices are available, and the food programme includes fish from responsible sources.

Three outdoor pools give you a choice of water without requiring a timetable, including a children’s pool and a pool with a swim-up bar. Sun loungers, umbrellas, pool and beach towels, a sun terrace and the white-sand beachfront cover the practical side of a lazy afternoon. Kayaking, sailing, windsurfing and other on-site water sports are available when floating quietly is not quite enough.

SPA Sensations offers massages, including sports, anti-stress, oriental and lymphatic drainage treatments, as well as reflexology, scrubs, hair care, manicures, pedicures and a jacuzzi. The fitness centre has cardio machines, resistance equipment and free weights, with yoga and zumba classes for something more structured. Evenings bring live professional shows, including music, dance and a well-known rock performance. Families have the Star Camp programme for children aged 4 to 15, divided into Monkey, Dolphin and Eagle groups, plus children’s entertainment and babysitting for adults who want a quieter dinner. The family side is therefore a real part of the resort, not a single token play area tucked behind reception.

Check-in starts at 15:00 and check-out runs until 12:00. You need photo identification and the same credit card used for the reservation when you arrive, and cash is not accepted for payments at the hotel. The main reservation holder must be at least 18, while children of all ages are welcome; child categories run from babies under 3, to children from 3 to 12, with the adult category starting at 13.
