Cerebros Reef, Playa del Carmen: Exploring the Brain Coral Gardens

Cerebros Reef is situated off the coast of Playa del Carmen, a boat ride north of the town, positioned in front of Tres Rios and just north of Los Arcos. This site is defined by its topography: a shallow fringing reef composed of large blocks and mounds of brain coral that give it its name. These coral formations rise close to the surface, creating a distinctive network of channels and zigzagging pathways that you navigate between the coral heads, rather than diving along a continuous wall or across an open expanse.

The dive here begins with a descent onto this coral garden, typically following the reef edge which slopes gently.
