English is spoken by the hotel team, so you can deal with the practicalities of your stay without hand signals or interpretive dance. Outpost Hostel is an adults-only base in Coron for travellers who prefer a social place, a waterfront setting and a useful launch point for island trips rather than a formal resort routine.

The atmosphere is sociable without being an all-night operation. Music and evening events run until around 10–11pm, then the volume drops so you can sleep. Solo travellers and groups fit naturally here, while private rooms give couples a quieter way to use the hostel.

You are in Coron, Palawan, on Busuanga Road in Barangay 5, directly on the waterfront and outside the busiest part of town. The sea is not a shuttle problem here: boats can be accessed straight from the hostel doorstep, with no tricycle ride or hunt for a harbour pick-up point before an excursion.

Coron Public Market is about a mile away, while Lualhati Park is roughly 0.9 miles from the property. Mount Tapyas is close by at about 0.2 miles, and Dicanituan Beach is a short walk away. For a longer outing, Kayangan Lake is around 4 miles away and Maquinit Hot Spring about 4 miles from the hostel.

You can also walk out for food. Lobster King is roughly 0.1 mile away, with McDonald’s and Kokosnuss Garden Restaurant within about 0.2 miles. Subasco is around 0.4 miles away for a drink, and Pirates Tavern Bar is about 0.4 miles from the property.

The choice is straightforward: private queen rooms for two, or dormitory accommodation ranging from four to twelve beds. If you are travelling as a couple and want a proper bed and your own space, the Deluxe Queen Room and Superior Queen Room are the sensible direction. The Superior option gives you the most room among the private categories, while the dormitories suit solo travellers and groups who are happy to trade privacy for a more communal stay.

The smaller Standard Twin Room uses bunk beds, so it is a practical rather than indulgent choice. Dormitory rooms also use bunk beds or single beds, depending on the category, with lockers available at the hostel for keeping your belongings organised. Ground-floor units make arrival and departure easier when you are carrying luggage rather than merely a phone and a room key.

Air conditioning and a fan are available for the tropical nights, with tiled floors, showers, toilets and linen in the accommodation. Some rooms also have private bathrooms, bidets, hairdryers and televisions. Daily housekeeping keeps the basic routine in order, and a socket beside the bed is a small but welcome detail when cameras, torches and phones all want charging at once.

Breakfast is à la carte, with the kitchen opening at 7am for coffee and food before the day gets moving. Options cover continental, American, full English or Irish, vegetarian, gluten-free and Asian breakfasts, with breakfast to go also available. That gives you something more useful than a decorative croissant when an early start is on the cards.

The restaurant serves brunch, lunch and dinner, with warm dishes, fresh pastries, pancakes, cheese and local specialities. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free diets are catered for. The accommodation formula is room only, so meals are handled as you go rather than bundled into the stay.

There is one named bar: Outpost Bar. It specialises in sunset cocktails, with a complimentary cocktail waiting when you return from the hostel’s tours. The bar also has happy hour, evening entertainment and live sport broadcasts, so you can choose between a drink with a view and a screen with a score.

The rooftop pool is the obvious place to spend the part of the afternoon when you have no interest in moving quickly. It comes with panoramic island views, a sun terrace, outdoor furniture and loungers, giving you somewhere to cool down without putting on another pair of fins.

When the pool has done its job, the shared lounge and television area offer a softer landing, with board games and puzzles for low-energy entertainment. The hostel also runs evening events with music and social time among staff and guests, though the soundtrack stops around 10–11pm rather than continuing into the small hours.

For a day away from the water, hiking and island-hopping excursions are available, including trips around Coron and El Nido and multi-day Castaway Expedition Tours. The tour desk and concierge service can help organise the practical side, while the direct waterfront position keeps boat departures particularly simple.

Busuanga Airport is about 13 miles away by road, with the drive taking around 21 minutes. Airport transfers and shuttle services are available through the hostel and can be arranged with the property. Free public parking is available nearby, without needing a reservation.

Check-in runs from 2pm until midnight, and check-out from 7am until 11am. The minimum age for check-in is 18, and children are not permitted, so the adults-only policy is worth keeping in mind when comparing rooms. Cots and extra beds are not available.

WiFi is free in the public areas. You also have luggage storage, lockers, an on-site cash machine, a minimarket, key access, a safety deposit box and 24-hour security. A cash damage deposit is collected on arrival and returned at check-out after the property has been inspected.

An environmental fee is paid to the local municipality for tourism sustainability. It is a one-off contribution valid for five days, linked to the local management of tourism in the area.

The hostel’s excursions also use purified drinking water, and the tours include unlimited access to it rather than leaving you to organise drinking water between island stops. It is a modest, practical part of the operation, which is generally more useful than a large green slogan on the wall.
