Garden of Eden Dive Resort is a relaxed resort in Puerto Galera, built around a garden setting and the easy rhythm of Sabang. You get a place that works for a diving holiday without turning every waking moment into a dive briefing: there is a pool, a restaurant, a bar and outdoor space for the hours when your kit is put away and your legs have remembered they exist.

The resort sits on Sabang Boulevard in Puerto Galera, on the coast of Oriental Mindoro in the Philippines. Sabang Beach is around 350 metres away, while Small La Laguna Beach is a seven-minute walk. Big La Laguna Beach is about 0.6 miles away on foot, and Coco Beach is roughly 1 mile from the resort.

You are not stranded on a private island with one menu and a timetable. Restaurants are close by, including Eddie's Place around 50 feet away, Papa Freds Steakhouse at about 200 feet and Luckys Saloon at around 350 feet on foot. Several bars are also within a short walk, including Sabang Disco and Pirates Den.

Ninoy Aquino International Airport is 136 km away. The surrounding area combines the Sabang coastline with tropical forest and access to Puerto Galera's wider marine environment.

The accommodation is aimed at practical recovery rather than decorative theatre. Rooms have air conditioning, a private bathroom with a shower, a work desk and daily housekeeping. That means a cooler room when you return warm and salt-covered, somewhere to deal with a few emails if required, and one less domestic task waiting for you before dinner.

Garden views and terrace views bring the outside into the room's outlook, while balconies and outdoor furniture give you somewhere to sit without having to go straight to the bar. The garden setting is useful here: you can step outside for air, but still have the basic indoor facilities needed for a proper night's sleep.

Family rooms give adults travelling together more space to organise themselves, though children are not permitted and no cots are available. Extra beds for adults can be requested, subject to the accommodation option. A private bathroom, air conditioning and a simple desk are the details that matter once the day's excitement has been replaced by tired feet.

There is one family-friendly restaurant at the resort, serving Asian, international and European cuisine. That gives you a broad enough choice for the evening without requiring a separate expedition whenever you come back hungry from the water. A bar is also on site for the obvious post-dive requirement: something cold, somewhere to sit and no complicated plan.

The food-and-drink setup is deliberately simple. Packed lunches are available when the day's schedule makes a sit-down meal inconvenient.

If you want to vary the menu, the neighbourhood starts almost at the gate. Eddie's Place is around 50 feet away, Papa Freds Steakhouse about 200 feet away and Luckys Saloon roughly 350 feet away on foot. Nearby bars include Sabang Disco, Pirates Den and Steps Garden Resort.

The outdoor swimming pool is the obvious place to slow the day down. Sun loungers and beach chairs are available, and pool or beach towels are provided, so you can move from the water to a shaded pause without making a project of it. A terrace and garden add more room to sit outside when the pool is busy or you simply want to dry off in the air.

The resort also has a spa, although the treatment menu is not set out. That is enough to make it relevant for a recovery day, particularly if your idea of an excursion is moving from the room to the pool and back again. Snorkelling is available for a lighter session in the water.

When you want to leave the resort, excursions include the Lighthouse of Sinandigan, Tukuran Falls, island hopping in Puerto Galera and the Wawa Eco-Tour. Walking tours and tours about local culture are also available. The shared lounge and TV area give you an indoor fallback for the part of the afternoon when the heat wins.

An airport shuttle is available, and shuttle services can also be arranged. Transfers are available in private or shared form through the resort. Private parking is possible nearby and requires reservation, which matters if your journey includes a car rather than a boat and a small bag.

Check-in runs from 14:00 to 19:00, and check-out is between 10:00 and 12:00. You need to let the resort know your expected arrival time in advance, particularly if your journey to Puerto Galera has several moving parts. Photo identification and a credit card are required at check-in.

WiFi is available free of charge in public areas rather than being presented as a room-by-room guarantee. Pets are allowed, although additional charges may apply. A safety deposit box is available for a further charge, and private check-in and check-out are offered.
