Located in North Chaweng at the Amari Koh Samui Resort, Discovery Divers has been a fixture of the local diving scene since 1999. As the island's oldest diving centre, they have spent over two decades refining their operations to serve both local divers and those travelling to the Gulf of Thailand.

The centre is positioned as a high-standard PADI 5 Star operation, prioritising efficient transit to the best reefs. By using a fleet of four speedboats, they ensure you spend more time on the water and less time commuting between the island and the offshore pinnacles.

The team is composed of experienced, full-time instructors who facilitate a wide range of training. To maintain high standards of supervision, they operate with a maximum ratio of four divers per guide.

The reefs are characterised by a rich diversity of hard corals (Scleractinia) and soft corals (Alcyonacea), providing a complex habitat for a vast array of reef fish. You will regularly encounter schools of fish including fusiliers (Caesio), snappers (Lutjanus), and various species of angelfish (Pomacanthidae) and butterflyfish (Chaetodon).

Large pelagics are a highlight of the deeper pinnacles. Depending on the site, you may encounter chevron barracudas, yellowtail barracudas, tuna (Thunnus), and various species of jacks (Carangidae). It is also possible to see dogtooth tuna (Gymnosarda unicolor) and large groupers (Epinephelus itajara) patrolling the walls.

Macro life enthusiasts can find many smaller treasures, including various nudibranchs (Chromodoris willani), octopus (Octopus vulgaris), and shrimp (Caridea). Keep an eye on the sandy patches for seahorses, pipefish, and various species of crabs (Brachyura).

During certain times of the year, the area becomes a magnet for larger visitors. Whale sharks (Rhincodon typus) are a seasonal highlight, and you may also encounter oceanic whitetip sharks, bull sharks, and various species of stingrays (Batoidea), including blue-spotted stingrays.

Diving in the Gulf of Thailand varies by location; while many local reefs and protected bays like Mango Bay offer calm conditions for beginners, offshore sites like Chumphon Pinnacle and Shark Island can experience strong currents. These sites are better suited to those with more experience.
