Silent Diver

Silent Divers has been operating out of Koh Samui since 2012, establishing itself as a reliable hub for diving in the Gulf of Thailand. The centre focuses on providing access to the region's most significant underwater landmarks, from the towering granite peaks of Sail Rock to the protected reefs of Ang Thong Marine Park.

Whether you are looking to complete your first open water qualification or are an experienced diver seeking a challenging drift dive, the centre's logistics are designed for efficiency. They use fast speedboats to minimise transit times, allowing more time spent on the water exploring the reefs and pinnacles.

As a PADI 5 Star IDC centre, Silent Divers is equipped to handle both recreational divers and those pursuing professional careers. The team includes expert instructors capable of teaching a wide range of courses, including the Instructor Development Course (IDC) and Master Scuba Diver Trainer (MSDT) programmes.

Instruction is delivered in English, Thai, German, and French, making it accessible for international divers. The centre maintains a strict safety standard, operating with a maximum ratio of four divers per guide to ensure close supervision and personalised guidance during every dive.

The training programme is comprehensive, covering the entire PADI progression. Beginners can start with Discover Scuba Diving or the Junior Open Water Diver courses, eventually progressing through Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver.

For more specialised skills, the centre offers PADI Deep Diver, Nitrox, and Peak Performance Buoyancy courses. They also cater to technical and specialty interests with Sidemount Diver training. Professional divers can advance through the Divemaster and Instructor Development Course (IDC) pathways, with the option to train as a Master Scuba Diver Trainer (MSDT).

The centre utilises fast speedboats for its daily excursions, ensuring quick transfers to the best dive sites in the area. These vessels are configured for comfort during the transit from Koh Samui to locations like Koh Tao or the Chumphon Pinnacle.

Onboard, you will find Thai lunch and soft drinks provided for the day's trips. The boats are fully equipped for diving operations, with Nitrox available for those who require it, and diving insurance is included in the excursion service.

Full rental kit is available on-site for divers who prefer not to carry their own equipment. This includes all the essentials required for a comfortable dive in tropical waters.

For those who bring their own gear, a discount is provided on the daily dive rates. The centre also maintains a dedicated Nitrox station, providing free Enriched Air Nitrox for all divers holding the appropriate certification.

The marine life in the Gulf is diverse, with large schools of fish frequently encountered. You can observe great barracudas (Sphyraena barracuda), bigeye trevallies (Carangidae), and various species of snapper (Lutjanus). Schools of batfish (Platax) and jack (Carangidae) are common, alongside queenfish and yellowtail barracudas.

On the reefs, you will find a vibrant array of hard coral (Scleractinia) and soft coral (Alcyonacea). Look for hawksbill turtles (Eretmochelys imbricata), blacktip reef sharks (Carcharhinus melanopterus), and various species of butterflyfish (Chaetodon). Large groupers (Epinephelus) and various rays (Batoidea), such as the Southern stingray (Hypanus americanus), are also regularly sighted.

Macro enthusiasts will find plenty to explore, including various nudibranchs (Chromodoris willani) and octopus (Octopus vulgaris). The crevices often hide moray eels (Muraenidae), including white-eyed moray eels, and colourful species of boxfish (Ostraciidae) or filefish (Monocanthidae).

During the months of March to May and August to October, there are frequent opportunities to encounter whale sharks (Rhincodon typus).

Conditions in the Gulf of Thailand vary depending on the site and the season. While many sites are accessible year-round, the area can experience more challenging conditions during the northeast monsoon in November.

Water currents can range from calm in the lagoons of Ang Thong to moderate or even strong at sites like Chumphon Pinnacle. Divers should be prepared for a thermocline, which is commonly encountered at Sail Rock below 25 metres.
