Gran Canaria Divers

Located directly on the beach in Puerto de Mogán, Gran Canaria Divers serves as a primary hub for diving on the southwest coast of Gran Canaria. The centre's position allows for easy access to both shore entries and boat departures, making it a practical base for divers exploring the Canary Islands.

Established in 2011, the centre operates as a PADI 5 Star IDC Centre. It provides a variety of diving experiences, from calm reef explorations for beginners to more challenging wreck and drift dives for advanced divers.

The team is multilingual, providing instruction and guidance in English, Spanish, German, Polish, French, and Italian. This makes the centre a reliable choice for international divers looking for clear communication during technical training or guided trips.

Instruction is handled by a professional team capable of delivering the full range of PADI courses. The centre maintains a ratio of up to 10 divers per guide, ensuring that even on larger boat trips, the group remains manageable.

As a 5 Star IDC Centre, the facility offers a complete spectrum of PADI training. This ranges from entry-level courses like PADI Bubblemaker and Open Water Diver to advanced certifications such as Advanced Open Water Diver, Deep Diver, and Nitrox.

For those looking to progress professionally, the centre provides Divemaster and Instructor Development Course (IDC) training. Specialist courses are also available, including Sidemount Diver, Wreck Diving, Night Diver, and Search and Recovery, as well as Emergency First Response Primary and Secondary Care.

The centre operates a 7.5m RIB powered by a 200 HP Suzuki engine. This vessel has a capacity of 10 divers and is used for trips to the surrounding wrecks and reefs along the southwest coast.

On board, you can access water, tea, and coffee. The boat is used for various dive types, including night dives and trips to offshore sites like the Veneguera Wreck.

The centre is fully equipped for shore-based operations, featuring a shop, a classroom, and a workshop with a compressor. Divers can access changing areas, hot showers, and toilets on site.

Full equipment hire is available for those travelling without their own kit, including regulators and BCDs. For those bringing their own gear, a discount is provided on dive packages. Nitrox is available for use, and the centre can assist with underwater photography and video support.

The reefs are home to a diverse array of fish, including parrotfish, groupers (Epinephelus), and various species of wrasse (Labridae). You will often see schools of fish such as jacks (Carangidae), tuna (Thunnus), and amberjack (Seriola), alongside colourful damselfish (Pomacentridae) and sea bream (Sparidae).

Macro life is abundant around the rocky overhangs and sandy patches. Divers can find octopus (Octopus vulgaris), cuttlefish (Sepiidae), and various species of moray eel (Muraenidae). For those interested in smaller creatures, look for garden eels (Gorgasia), nudibranchs, and cleaner shrimp (Lysmata).

The sandy bottom and reef edges provide sightings of rays (Batoidea), including stingrays and the occasional angelshark (Squatina). In the summer, there are opportunities to encounter turtles and hammerhead sharks.

The area is diveable almost year-round, though a few days in December and January can be affected by wind and waves. While boat dives are generally resilient to swell, some shore dives on exposed eastern and northern sites may be unavailable for a few days a year due to heavy swell.

Water currents are typically low to moderate, though certain sites like the Veneguera Wreck can experience strong currents. Visibility is generally good, ranging between 15 and 40 metres.
