Dive sites with Canareef Resort

The British Loyalty is a significant wreck for history enthusiasts, consisting of a 140-metre long petrol tanker sunk during the Second World War. You can observe visible torpedo damage on the hull, making it a profound site for wreck exploration.

Manta Point is a renowned cleaning station located within the Maa Kandu channel. It is a reliable site where you can observe manta rays throughout the entire year.

Bodu Hoholha offers a different experience as one of the largest underwater caves in the region. It provides a unique opportunity to explore cavernous structures and different light conditions.

The Addu Atoll channels, including Gan Kandu, Vilingili Kandu, Maa Kandu, and Kuda Kandu, are ideal for those seeking encounters with large pelagics. These sites offer manageable currents and are excellent for spotting sharks, eagle rays, and barracudas.

Marine life around Addu Atoll

The waters around Addu Atoll are famous for large pelagic species. You can expect to see manta rays, tiger sharks, and various species of sharks throughout the year. Large schools of barracudas, eagle rays, and tuna are also common visitors to the outer reefs and channels.

The reef ecosystems are vibrant and home to a high density of diverse marine life. You will regularly encounter green sea turtles, Napoleon wrasse, and spinner dolphins. Other frequent sightings include blacktip reef sharks, giant trevally, and various tropical fish species.

Smaller inhabitants of the reef include moray eels and various species of reef fish that populate the coral structures. The presence of pilot whales and other larger marine mammals adds to the biological diversity of the area.

Diving conditions

The diving environment is shaped by the natural flow of water through the Addu Atoll channels. These currents are generally considered manageable for divers of all levels, facilitating predictable drift dives.

The constant movement of water through the atoll ensures excellent visibility year-round. While the region experiences a dry season from December to April with sunny skies, the period from May to October marks the low season where tropical rainfall is more frequent.
