A shopping centre is 200 metres away, useful for picking up provisions for the kitchenette or a few essentials between outings. Tiahura Beach is about 500 metres away, while Papetoai Beach is roughly 2 miles from the hotel by road.

Moorea Airport is about 14 miles away, with a drive of around 30 minutes. The ferry pier is about 35 minutes by car. Three restaurants are also close by: Le Mayflower, Casa Vincenzo and Le Sunset, all within a few hundred feet, although Le Sunset is the restaurant on the property.

The accommodation is spread across rooms, studios and bungalows, with the choice changing the feel of your stay more than the label on the door might suggest. Couples who want to wake up to the water should look towards the lagoon-view or sea-view bungalows; those who prefer a little more privacy outdoors can choose a garden-view bungalow instead.

Le Sunset is the main event at mealtimes, set directly on the white-sand beach with a panoramic lagoon view that carries through the day into sunset. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served there, and the restaurant opens seven days a week. The stay is offered on a half-board basis, while breakfast is served as a buffet.

The cooking covers seafood, fresh fish, New Zealand meat, fresh pasta made on site and handmade pizzas cooked in a wood-fired oven. The sauces are made in-house, and the menu's signature is the tuna dish prepared in five different ways, centred on raw red tuna. That gives you something more distinctive than the standard resort menu of vaguely international dishes.

Drinks and cocktails are served at the bar, with a snack bar and an on-site coffee house for less formal stops. The outdoor dining area keeps the lagoon in view, so you can choose between a full meal and the simpler solution: sit down, order a drink and let the day finally come to a halt.

The outdoor pool sits at the heart of the hotel, with sun loungers and beach chairs for the hours when you want water without another timetable. The beach is directly accessible, and kayaking and boat excursions give you ways to get back onto the lagoon without repeating the morning's plan.

Local providers can arrange outings to discover rays and whales, while walking tours, cycling tours, cultural tours, hiking, horse riding and golf broaden the options on land. Some activities take place off site and some carry an additional charge, so the tour desk is the sensible place to sort out the details rather than guessing from a brochure.

For a quieter afternoon, there is a library, a shared lounge with television and board games and puzzles. Polynesian dances provide an evening activity, while quad and four-wheel-drive safaris offer a more energetic way to see Moorea. Car hire is available if you want to make the island your own route for the day.

Free private parking is available on site without a reservation, and Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel. Car hire can be arranged, and the tour desk can help with excursions and local plans.
