Lighthouse Dive Center

Lighthouse Dive Center is situated in the Masbat area of Dahab, positioned directly at the edge of one of the most famous reef systems in the Red Sea. For twenty years, the centre has operated from this central location, providing divers with immediate access to the shallow terraces and deeper walls that define the local seabed.

The centre serves as a base for both shore-based diving and excursions, catering to those looking to explore the unique topography of the Assalah Bay. Its location allows for easy entry into the water, making it a practical choice for those staying in the heart of the town.

The team is composed of a manager who is a dive instructor, a coordinator, and two dive guides, supported by a dedicated staff including a compressor operator and security. The majority of the staff are Egyptian, and they are proficient in English, which facilitates smooth communication for international divers.

For divers coming from Central Europe, the team also speaks Hungarian, Slovak, and Czech. This multilingual approach helps bridge the gap for many visiting groups. The centre is well-equipped to handle both individual divers and larger group bookings.

Training at the centre ranges from introductory programmes to formal certification courses. Beginners can start with the Discover Scuba Diving programme to experience the underwater world before progressing to the Open Water Diver course.

The centre's teaching focuses on providing a structured environment for those looking to build their foundational skills in the Red Sea.

The centre offers full equipment hire for those not travelling with their own kit. If you require specific sizes for your rental, it is best to coordinate this with the centre in advance. On-site, divers have access to lockable lockers to secure their personal belongings.

The facility is equipped with standard 220V/50Hz electrical sockets and provides free WiFi for guests. For those staying on-site, the centre also manages local accommodation options which include air conditioning and regular towel service.

The reefs around Dahab are home to a wide array of colourful reef fish. You can regularly observe Lionfish (Pterois volitans), Parrotfish (Calotomus), and various species of Groupers (Epinephelus). Schools of fish, including snappers and various reef fish, move across the terraces, while Tuna (Thunnus) and large pelagic fish can sometimes be spotted in the deeper sections.

For those interested in larger marine life, the area is a regular habitat for turtles, specifically the Caretta caretta. During the summer months, large rays are also known to frequent the area. You may also encounter Napoleon wrasse (Cheilinus undulatus) and various species of Moray eel (Muraenidae) within the crevices of the reef.

Macro life and smaller inhabitants provide plenty for the attentive diver. Look for Seahorse (Hippocampus kuda) in the seagrass, as well as Octopus (Octopus vulgaris), shrimp (Caridea), and various species of crabs and lobsters. Spanish dancers are also known to appear, particularly during night dives.

The seabed is beautifully decorated with a variety of fixed life, including numerous soft corals and hard corals. Sponges (Porifera), black corals, and various Sea anemones (Actiniaria) provide the essential structure for the local ecosystem.

The Lighthouse Reef is a well-protected site, shielded from heavy waves and significant currents by a coral protrusion. This makes it an ideal location for both beginners and those preferring calmer conditions.

In contrast, the Cave site is more exposed to the elements. While entry and exit are straightforward in calm seas, the presence of waves can make accessing the site considerably more difficult.
