The marine life in the Dahab area is incredibly diverse, with large schools of fish and various reef inhabitants common to the region. You will regularly see groupers (Epinephelus), Napoleon wrasse (Cheilinus undulatus), and various species of snapper and jacks. Larger pelagics such as yellowtail barracudas and occasional guitarfishes add to the excitement of the drift dives.

In the shallower reef flats and lagoons, look for unicornfish (Naso), parrotfish (Calotomus), and various butterflyfish. Turtles, including hawksbill turtles and green sea turtles, are frequently spotted navigating the coral structures.

For macro enthusiasts, the area offers plenty of interest with nudibranchs (Chromodoris willani), scorpionfish (Scorpaenidae), and stonefish (Synanceia) hiding amongst the reef. Divers should be aware that certain sites, such as Ras Abu Helal, Eel Garden, The Canyon, and Shogayrat, can experience strong currents. The topography of the coast also means that some sites, like The Islands and The Caves, can be exposed to swell.

Tides can influence the ease of access at several locations; for example, it is often preferable to enter The Canyon or The Islands at high tide to navigate the reef platforms more easily.
