At Cebu, your international flight and domestic flight meet, but the terminals do not connect airside. Changing buildings means going landside, on foot or by shuttle, with all your kit.

How long is your layover?
2 hrs
Within the same terminal, you should make it. Between terminals, you have to go outside.
- ⚠️ The domestic and international terminals are not connected airside. To move between them, you must go landside, reach the other building on foot or by shuttle, then check in and clear security again.
- The short connection times advertised 35 minutes between two domestic flights, 1 hour when an international flight is involved come from a commercial connection product. They assume everything behaves itself.
- If you need to collect and re-check a dive bag, allow far more time than those figures.
2–5 hrs
There is not much to do, but the useful basics are free.
- Wi-Fi is free in both terminals, with charging points in several areas.
- ⚠️ There is no documented rest area and no free shower. The lounge is the only alternative to terminal seating.
- ⚠️ Do not base an outing on being able to leave your larger dive kit in luggage storage. Keep it with you.
5–10 hrs
You can go out, but nothing is arranged for you and luggage storage is not something to rely on.
- VISA REQUIRED most European passport holders can enter the Philippines without a visa for a short stay, subject to the usual passport and onward-ticket conditions.
- ⚠️ As elsewhere in the Philippines, you need to complete the online eTravel registration before arrival. It is free and quick, but do it at home rather than in the queue.
- The airport runs no city tour. If you go out, you make your own arrangements and allow time to get back.
10 hrs +
The international terminal has a hotel, with rooms booked by the hour.
- A transit hotel occupies the international terminal and can be booked in blocks from 3 hours at the desk. It is the shortest walk available.
- ⚠️ Check when booking whether it is reached from the secure area or only landside. That answer matters rather more if your passport makes entry awkward.
- VISA REQUIRED the hotel beside the airport has a shuttle, and Lapu-Lapu has plenty of addresses a few minutes away.
- No airline-provided accommodation programme operates here. Treat the overnight stay as your responsibility.
What catches travellers out
The two terminals do not connect airside
The airport is modest in size, which encourages the assumption that everything joins up. It does not: domestic and international are separate buildings, and moving between them means going landside, checking in again and clearing security again.
The advertised connection times come from a commercial product
35 minutes between two domestic flights, 1 hour when an international flight is involved: these figures belong to an airline connection product, not an airport guarantee. They assume no bag goes astray and no queue develops a personality.
Luggage storage is not guaranteed
Do not plan to leave your larger dive kit behind for a walk. Assume it stays with you.

You can buy your way into Plaza Premium at the door, with no card or status required. There is one in each terminal.
Clear up the first misunderstanding: this lounge is not just for business-class passengers. You buy access at the door, whatever airline or cabin is printed on your ticket.
Mactan-Cebu has no free showers. Between a long-haul flight and the flight out to your island, this is the only place to wash.
⚠️ There is one in the international terminal and one in the domestic terminal. As the buildings do not connect airside, use the lounge in your DEPARTURE terminal the other is out of reach once you have passed security.
There is no proper rest area in the terminal. It is the public hall or the lounge, with no middle ground.
Expect the equivalent of an airport sit-down meal for a few quiet hours, including a shower.

- You can book in blocks from 3 hours: the simple answer to a night stopover too short to justify a full night.

- Choose this when your stopover warrants a full night rather than a few hours.
- Lapu-Lapu has many more options, often cheaper and at a similar distance. Check the shuttle before booking.

The diver’s reflex
The wall is at 160 Wh, and it applies to the island flight too
The Philippine authority allows no wiggle room, and the rule applies to your domestic flight to Malapascua or Bohol just as much as the long-haul flight that brought you in. Above 160 Wh, a power bank does not fly. Below 100 Wh, it goes without formality; between the two, you need the airline's approval, and the national airline accepts only two. They go neither in checked baggage nor in the overhead locker: keep the bag containing them with you, in the seat pocket or under the seat. Following several onboard fires, using them during the flight is prohibited. Recharge the pack for your torches on the ground, not between islands.
⭐ Book your dive bag in the app, not at the desk
The local airline does not treat dive equipment as an ordinary suitcase: it is special baggage, one item per passenger, 20 kg, added in its app so you need an account with the airline up to 2 hours before departure. Above 20 kg, excess baggage applies. The important bit, however, is printed plainly: space for this special baggage is LIMITED on its regional subsidiary's turboprops. Those are precisely the aircraft serving the smaller islands. Reserve it with the ticket, not the day before. What runs out here is space in the hold, not willingness to take your money.
Changing terminals means going outside
It is a walk or a landside shuttle in the Visayas climate, with 25 kg checked in and a heavy cabin bag. It is not far, but it is not nothing, and it is where connections go missing. If your onward flight is domestic, know this when booking rather than when you step off the aircraft.
