West Bay Divers

West Bay Divers is a PADI 5 Star centre situated on the shores of West Bay Beach in Roatan, Honduras. The centre is designed around a boutique service model, focusing on professional training and high-end dive experiences for both recreational and advanced divers.

The location offers easy access to the Bay Islands' most diverse underwater topographies. You can explore everything from shallow wrecks and vibrant reef flats to deeper offshore seamounts and canyons.

The team is composed of highly qualified instructors, divemasters, and captains with a combined experience of over 100 years. This depth of knowledge ensures that whether you are starting your training or planning an advanced excursion, you are in capable hands.

To maintain a high standard of safety and personal attention, the centre operates with small groups, with a maximum of four divers per guide. They offer a full range of PADI services, including a concierge-style approach to your diving trip.

A comprehensive range of PADI courses is available, starting from Discover Scuba Diving through to Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver. For those looking to professionalise, the centre offers Divemaster training.

Specialty training is extensive, covering areas such as Wreck Diver, Night Diver, Deep Diver, and Enriched Air Nitrox. You can also refine your skills with courses like Peak Performance Buoyancy, Underwater Navigation, Drift Diver, and Multilevel Diver. The centre also offers the eLite digital learning system, allowing you to complete your theory at home before arriving on the island.

The flagship of the fleet is El Guapo, a 55-foot dive yacht capable of carrying 25 people. It is equipped for comfort with a terrace, a kitchen, a bathroom, and hot showers on board. This vessel is ideal for longer trips or those seeking more space, and it features twin 450hp engines.

The rest of the fleet includes four dedicated dive boats: La Jefa and La Loca, which can accommodate 10 to 15 divers and are powered by twin 300hp engines, La Flaca, which has a single 350hp engine, and La Reina, powered by a 225hp engine. These boats facilitate regular two-tank morning dives and one-tank afternoon sessions.

The centre provides full equipment hire as part of their diving packages, covering regulators, BCDs, wetsuits, fins, and masks. This includes weights and cylinders, so you do not need to carry heavy kit from your accommodation.

Nitrox is available for divers looking to extend their bottom time. The centre also maintains two locations: the main hub located behind Beacher's Grill and a satellite location at the Kimpton Grand Roatan.

The reefs are home to a vast array of larger species, including Nurse shark (Ginglymostoma cirratum), Reef shark (Carcharhinus), and various turtles such as Green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas) and Loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta). You will often see large groupers (Epinephelus), Jack (Carangidae), and various species of snapper (Lutjanus) patrolling the reef.

The hard and soft coral structures provide a backdrop of brain coral, pillar coral, sea fans (Gorgoniidae), and various sponges (Porifera). These habitats support diverse life, from blue chromis and creole wrasse to large tarpons and Atlantic spadefish.

For those interested in macro life, the area hosts many smaller creatures. Look for garden eels (Gorgasia), Seahorse (Hippocampus kuda), Octopus (Octopus vulgaris), and various nudibranchs. You may also encounter scorpionfish (Scorpaenidae), mantis shrimp, and various species of shrimp and crabs among the crevices.

The centre offers a variety of dive profiles, including night dives and drift dives. They also facilitate long-distance excursions to nearby islands such as Guanaja, Utila, and Cayos Cochinos for divers seeking different reef environments.
