Freediving Explorations is a specialised project led by Carlos Coste and Petra Oberucova, focusing on niche adventures and global wildlife expeditions. Rather than a traditional dive centre, it operates as a platform for high-level coaching and immersive underwater exploration.

The project brings together professional training and raw nature, moving between the deep cenotes of the Yucatan, the open waters of the Sea of Cortez, and Mediterranean deep-diving camps. It is designed for those who want to go beyond standard recreational limits, focusing on both performance and the observation of pelagic species.

The team is led by Carlos Coste, a legendary figure in the apnea community and a holder of 12 world records. His expertise forms the backbone of the coaching, providing a level of insight rarely found in standard training programmes.

Instruction is delivered by a team of three qualified instructors, with a strict ratio of maximum three divers per guide. This ensures highly personalised attention, whether you are working through a professional course or participating in a group expedition.

Communication is handled in both English and Spanish, making the programmes accessible to an international community of athletes and enthusiasts.

The centre offers a comprehensive range of AIDA certifications, catering to everyone from those beginning their journey to established professionals. Training includes the WAVE2 Advanced Course and the WAVE3 Master Freediver Course.

For those looking to enter the professional ranks, the W2I Instructor Course is available. Beyond formal certifications, Carlos Coste provides bespoke coaching, both in person and online, tailored specifically for intermediate, master, and professional freedivers.

The open waters of the Sea of Cortez and the Pacific expeditions offer incredible encounters with large pelagics. In the spring, you can witness the massive aggregations of Mobula rays. During the autumn, the Magdalena Bay area becomes a hub of activity with the arrival of the sardine run, attracting schools of sardines, mackerels, and juvenile tuna, alongside striped marlins.

Larger species are a constant draw for these expeditions. You may find yourself swimming alongside Bryde's whales, dolphins, and sea lions. The presence of various pelagic birds also adds to the energy of these ocean encounters.

The variety of life in these regions is vast, encompassing everything from large predators to smaller, more subtle inhabitants of the water column.

The programmes are highly seasonal, with specific expeditions timed to coincide with biological events. The sardine run in Magdalena Bay is best experienced during the autumn, while the Mobula ray aggregations in the Sea of Cortez are most prominent in the spring.
