Azure Dive Resort puts you on the beachfront in the small town of Dauin, with Filipino-inspired spaces and a private beach area facing the sea. The mood is unhurried rather than dressed up: you have gardens, a terrace, a pool and somewhere to sit when the day’s diving is done and your legs have remembered they exist.

The resort suits divers who want the water close but also want a proper place to eat, cool off and sleep. A fitness centre, room service, air conditioning and an on-site restaurant keep the practical side of a dive trip under control, while the beach and outdoor spaces give you room to do very little. Sometimes that is the correct plan.

You are in Masaplod Norte, Dauin, Negros Oriental, in the Philippines, with direct access to the seafront and a private beach area. Azure is tucked into Dauin rather than placed in a busy town centre, so the setting is more coastal retreat than urban base.

Dauin Beach is about 1.5 miles away by road, while Robinsons Place Dumaguete is roughly 10 miles away. Dumaguete’s belfry and Quezon Park are around 10 miles from the resort, and Pulangbato Falls is about 8 miles away. For a change of scenery between dives, the resort can arrange access to bicycles, local-culture tours and excursions; the surrounding area gives you several reasons to leave the sun lounger.

Sibulan Airport is about 12 miles away by road, with a journey of around 23 minutes by car. A private airport shuttle or shared shuttle service is available through the resort, so you can arrange the transfer before arrival rather than negotiating it while carrying dive luggage.

The room choice is fairly easy to read. For two, the King Room with Sea View is the natural couple’s option, while the Deluxe Twin Room with Sea View makes more sense when separate beds matter. The Superior Family Room gives a larger group a more workable sleeping arrangement, with several beds rather than the usual furniture shuffle that turns a room into a puzzle after dark.

Sea views are available in the couple-focused categories, while other rooms look towards the garden or pool. That gives you a choice between waking up to the water and facing the resort’s greener, more sheltered side. Every room has air conditioning, a private bathroom, a refrigerator and tea- and coffee-making facilities — useful details when you return warm, thirsty and not especially interested in conversation.

There is also a desk, wardrobe, flat-screen television, slippers, hairdryer and a clothes-drying rack. Daily housekeeping keeps the room in order, and the tiled or marble floor is easier to live with when the day has involved sand and wet clothing. Children of any age are welcome, but cots and extra beds are not available, so choose the room category around the beds already provided.

Beatriz is the resort’s restaurant and covers breakfast, lunch and dinner, which saves you from arranging transport every time hunger arrives on its own timetable. Its semi-al fresco setting looks across the sea, pool and gardens, so you can eat outside without turning the meal into a formal production.

Breakfast combines international and local choices, with continental, vegetarian, buffet and à la carte formats. It starts early, a useful arrangement when your morning involves more than finding the nearest coffee. For lunch and dinner, the menu draws on international cooking and includes vegetarian choices as well as options for different dietary needs.

There is no separate bar listed, but Beatriz is an all-day dining room rather than a breakfast-only corner. Room service is available when you would rather eat privately, and packed lunches can be arranged for a day away. If a sandwich deserves a mention, the Cubano is the one named by the resort’s own dining description — a practical bit of intelligence for the evening when you want food, not a committee meeting.

The outdoor pool gives you an easy place to cool down without going anywhere, while the private beach offers a more direct route to the sea. Sun loungers, beach chairs, umbrellas and pool or beach towels are available, so you can choose between shade, water and the disciplined art of remaining horizontal.

A fitness centre is on site for anyone who still has energy left after diving. A full-body massage is also available, and massage services can be arranged when your shoulders have had enough of carrying tanks, bags and the consequences of poor packing decisions.

For a change from the resort grounds, you can hire a bicycle or take part in a tour about local culture. Boat excursions and snorkelling are available too. The resort also offers car hire and access to local transport tickets, giving couples and families a way to build a day around Dauin and the surrounding area rather than spending every non-diving hour beside the pool.

Check-in runs from 14:00 to 20:00. Check-out is available 24 hours, which gives you useful flexibility around travel plans. There is no age requirement for check-in, and children of any age are welcome, although the room arrangements do not include cots or extra beds.

Airport transfers are available by shuttle from Sibulan Airport, around 12 miles away by road. The resort also offers a shuttle service, car hire and public transport tickets. Free private parking is available on site without advance reservation, which is handy if you are travelling around Negros Oriental by car.

Daily housekeeping, laundry, dry cleaning and ironing services cover the practical chores. Express check-in and check-out are available, together with a safety deposit box, 24-hour security and wheelchair-accessible facilities. There is no internet access at the property, so plan around that before you arrive rather than discovering it when you are trying to download tomorrow’s travel details. Pets and parties are not permitted.
