Lanta Diver

The reefs around Koh Lanta are built upon a foundation of hard corals and soft corals, providing a complex habitat for a vast array of species. You will find various sea fans (Gorgoniidae) and large barrel sponges decorating the seascape, alongside colourful reef fish and schools of fusiliers (Caesio).

Large pelagics and reef sharks are a significant draw for the area. You may encounter Blacktip reef sharks (Carcharhinus melanopterus), whitetip sharks, and even the occasional Whale shark (Rhincodon typus). Schools of Jack (Carangidae), trevally, and barracudas, including chevron barracudas, frequently move through the water column.

For those interested in macro life, the area is exceptionally diverse. Keep a sharp eye out for various nudibranchs, seahorses, and ornate ghost pipefish (Solenostomus paradoxus). The crevices and reef structures are home to many crustaceans, including harlequin shrimps, imperial shrimp, and porcelain crabs, as well as various species of octopus (Octopus vulgaris) and cuttlefish (Sepiidae).

Other notable residents include several species of rays, such as blue-spotted stingrays and manta rays (Mobula alfredi). You can also observe various groupers (Epinephelus), moray eels (Muraenidae), and a wide range of colourful butterflyfish (Chaetodon) and angelfish (Pomacanthidae) navigating the coral gardens.
