Delphinus Diving School

Delphinus Diving School is a well-established PADI 5 Star centre situated in the heart of Puerto de Mogán. Operating from within the Cordial Mogan Playa hotel, the school provides a professional base for divers looking to explore the volcanic landscapes and varied marine life of Gran Canaria.

Since its founding in 2007, the centre has built a reputation based on over 20 years of teaching experience. Whether you are looking to complete your first Open Water Diver qualification or are moving into technical diving, the school's infrastructure and expertise cover the full spectrum of recreational and advanced diving.

The team is composed of certified PADI instructors and divemasters who bring an international perspective to the school. This diverse background ensures that communication is seamless for a wide range of visitors, with instruction available in English, Spanish, German, Polish, and French.

The training programme is extensive, covering the entire PADI progression. The shore-based facilities are high-standard, featuring a dedicated classroom for theory work, a training pool, a dive shop, and areas for rinsing kit and showering. Full equipment hire is available for those not travelling with their own regulator, BCD, or exposure suit.

For technical and advanced divers, the centre provides Nitrox and Trimix capabilities. A dive computer is a mandatory requirement for all dives, and additional units are available for hire if needed. For those wishing to document their dives, GoPro cameras can be provided.

The reefs around Puerto de Mogan are home to a diverse array of colourful fish. You will frequently encounter schools of fish including blue chromis, Atlantic damselfish, and various wrasse such as the ornate wrasse and turkish wrasses. Look out for parrotfish, triggerfish (Balistidae), and various species of damselfish darting amongst the reef structure.

Larger pelagics and predatory fish add excitement to the dives, with sightings of Great barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda), tuna (Thunnus), and amberjack (Seriola). You may also spot rays, including stingrays, common stingrays, and even the electric ray (Torpedinidae) resting on the seabed.

For those interested in macro life, the area offers plenty of detail. Keep an eye on the crevices for octopus (Octopus vulgaris), cuttlefish (Sepiidae), and various scorpionfish (Scorpaenidae). Nudibranchs (Chromodoris willani), seahorses (Hippocampus kuda), and different species of shrimp and crabs can be found amongst the smaller habitats.

The seabed is enriched by a variety of fixed life, including gorgonians, sea fans (Gorgoniidae), soft corals, and hard corals. Sea anemones (Actiniaria) provide homes for various small reef fish, while garden eels (Gorgasia) can be seen swaying in the current.

The area is known for warm currents that can influence dive planning. While the water is generally favourable for diving, divers should be aware of the local conditions when choosing between boat dives and the shore dives offered on weekends.

On weekends, the school focuses on shore diving towards the marine reserves, providing a different way to experience the local topography compared to the weekday boat trips.
