Chill Out Divers

Chill Out Divers is situated in Puerto del Carmen, Lanzarote, positioned only a short walk from Playa Chica, which is widely considered the premier diving location on the island. The centre is designed for those looking for an authentic experience that prioritises a calm, unhurried atmosphere.

The shop provides access to the diverse underwater topography of Lanzarote, ranging from vibrant reef flats to more complex structures including wrecks and underwater caves. Whether you are visiting for a single introductory dive or a multi-day training programme, the location allows for easy access to the island's most interesting marine environments.

The centre is led by Juan Ignacio Urrutia, an instructor with more than nine years of experience. He operates with affiliations to PADI, SSI, and BSAC, ensuring that divers from various training backgrounds feel at home.

Teaching at Chill Out Divers is highly personalised, with an emphasis on adapting the pace and style of instruction to the individual learner. The team communicates in both Spanish and English, making it straightforward for international divers to follow briefings and receive technical guidance during their courses.

The centre offers a comprehensive range of training through PADI, SSI, and BSAC. For those new to the water, they provide 'Bautizo de buceo' (introductory dives) to experience the sensation of breathing underwater in a controlled environment.

For divers looking to progress their qualifications, the centre runs various 'Cursos de buceo' (diving courses) to move through the certification levels. The instruction is tailored to ensure that each student masters their skills at their own speed, whether they are working towards basic certifications or more advanced training.

The reefs around Playa Chica are home to a variety of interesting fish species. You will encounter parrotfishes, damselfish (Pomacentridae), and various seabream, alongside triggerfish (Balistidae) and unicornfish (Naso). Larger pelagic species and schools of sardines (Sardina pilchardus) are also part of the local ecosystem.

For those interested in larger marine life, the area hosts angel sharks (Squatina), stingrays (Myliobatiformes), and occasionally manta rays (Mobula alfredi). You may also spot groupers (Epinephelinae), moray eels (Muraenidae), and various species of octopus (Octopoda) patrolling the rocky structures.

Macro enthusiasts can find plenty to observe among the smaller inhabitants. The seabed and reef crevices host seahorses (Hippocampus), various shrimps (Caridea), and cleaner shrimp (Lysmata). Nudibranchs (Chromodoris willani) and other macro critters add significant colour to the smaller sections of the reef.

The underwater scenery is defined by healthy biological growth, including various sponges (Porifera), anemones, and orange corals. These provide the essential habitat for the local population, including spiny lobsters (Palinuridae) and the Canary spiny lobster.
