Aber Wrac'H Plongee about the centre

Aber Wrac'h Plongée is situated in Landéda, positioned within one of the largest Abers in the Finistère Nord region. This natural fjord provides a unique gateway to the Iroise Sea, offering a protected environment that transitions into more exposed, technical waters as you head towards the open sea.

The centre is conveniently located at the Port de l'Aber Wrac'h, with the embarkation point just 40 metres from the facility. This proximity allows for a quick transition from the shore to the water, with most dive sites reached within 5 to 30 minutes of navigation.

The club and its team

The centre is led by Ludo, a state-qualified instructor with a deep expertise in the local waters of the Iroise Sea. The team is expanded during the high season to ensure adequate support for the various dive programmes offered.

Instruction is provided for a wide range of levels, from initial discovery dives to advanced certifications. The centre operates year-round, catering to both local divers and those looking to explore the specific marine biology of the Breton fjords.

Courses on offer

The training programme covers the full spectrum of diving progression. Beginners can start with a discovery dive (Baptême) or progress through the formal Niveau 1, Niveau 2, and Niveau 3 certification levels.

For those following the Bronze, Silver, and Gold diver progression, the centre provides structured instruction to build technical competence. The curriculum is designed to take you from your first breath underwater to more advanced marine exploration.

The boats

The centre operates a 7.5m semi-rigid RIB powered by a 250CV engine. The vessel is configured to carry a maximum of 18 divers, ensuring there is sufficient space for comfort during the transit to the sites.

Navigation is efficient, allowing you to reach the various reefs and wrecks of the area quickly. The boat is used for all types of excursions, including shallow explorations, drift dives at mid-tide, and night dives.

Equipment and gases

As a Beuchat Diving Center, the facility maintains a well-serviced fleet of equipment. For those requiring hire, the centre provides complete kit including wetsuits, regulators, BCDs, fins, and masks.

On-site facilities include dedicated changing rooms with hot showers, a classroom for theory sessions, rinsing tanks, lockers, and equipment racks. The centre also provides 12L cylinders with double outlets for your dives.

Dive sites with Aber Wrac'H Plongee

The Amoco Cadiz is a massive wreck resting at 32 metres. This 334-metre supertanker has been colonised by giant kelp and diverse marine life, making it a premier site for P.E.40 divers, though it requires careful timing during tidal slack to manage the strong currents.

The Elektra is a Greek cargo ship lying at 20 metres. This site is ideal for P.E.20 divers and underwater photographers, offering the chance to explore the aft hold and the beautifully preserved steering wheel.

The islands of the Abers offer shallower, calmer waters perfect for beginners or those interested in marine biology. These sites allow you to observe a dense variety of flora and fauna in a more sheltered setting.

Drift dives are organised at mid-tide during spring tides. These excursions take advantage of moderate currents, allowing you to glide past the seabed and observe the marine landscape without constant swimming effort.

Marine life around Bretagne

The sheltered waters of the Abers are a haven for marine biology enthusiasts. You will find a rich variety of flora and fauna in the shallower zones, where the biodiversity is particularly high.

In the deeper sections and around the wrecks, the environment changes significantly. The Amoco Cadiz, in particular, has become a massive artificial reef, with giant kelp forests providing cover for various species.

Night diving offers a completely different perspective on the local ecosystem. When diving at night, you can observe the nocturnal activity of species that remain hidden during the day, provided you are equipped with a reliable torch or dive light.

Diving conditions

Diving in this region is heavily influenced by the tides. Wreck dives, particularly at the Amoco Cadiz, are strictly scheduled to coincide with tidal slack to ensure safety in the face of strong currents.

Drift dives are specifically organised to utilise the currents at mid-tide during spring tides. Divers should be prepared for moderate currents during these excursions.
