A Madreperla

Located in Linguizzetta, A Madreperla serves as a gateway to the underwater treasures of Corsica's eastern plain. This is a small-scale operation designed for those who prefer a quiet, nature-focused environment over the high-volume 'diver factories' found in more commercial hubs.

The club operates seasonally from June to September, providing access to a variety of Mediterranean habitats. Whether you are looking to take your first breath underwater or are a technical diver seeking specific training, the centre provides a structured and professional environment for your time in the water.

The centre is led by Jean-Marie Espervie, a Brevet d'Etat diving instructor with over 20 years of experience and more than 5,000 dives to his name. His background as a marine biology animator adds a layer of ecological insight to the diving experience, making it an ideal spot for those interested in the local ecosystem.

Instruction is provided through the FFESSM and ANMP frameworks. While the primary language spoken is French, the centre provides services in English to accommodate international divers. The focus remains heavily on safety and a convivial, welcoming atmosphere for all members.

The centre offers a comprehensive range of training through the FFESSM system. For those starting their journey, they provide Niveau 1 training, as well as the Bronze, Silver, and Gold diver certifications.

For more advanced divers, the curriculum includes PE 40 and higher levels (Niveau 2 and Niveau 3). The club also caters to those interested in technical diving or rehabilitation diving, providing specialized instruction for those looking to push their limits beyond recreational boundaries.

The club operates a Master 7.5m semi-rigid vessel, powered by a 200 hp inboard engine. This boat has a capacity for up to 18 divers, making it suitable for both small groups and larger exploration trips.

Safety and navigation equipment are standard on board, ensuring reliable transit to the various reefs and wrecks of the region. The vessel is used to reach sites ranging from shallow rocky outcrops to deeper wreck locations.

Full kit hire is available for divers who do not wish to bring their own equipment. This includes regulators, BCDs, wetsuits, fins, and masks. For those needing specific tools, torches and dive computers are also available for rent.

Safety is a priority on land, with oxygen for emergencies kept on site. The centre is a Beuchat partner, ensuring high standards of equipment reliability.

The rocky reefs and arches are home to a vibrant community of life. You will find various species of wrasse, including labres, and several types of seabream such as saddled seabream and salema porgy. Groupers and various serrans are frequently stationed around the ledges, while barracuda and various pelagics may pass through the area.

In the seagrass meadows and around the cave entrances, the biodiversity is high. Look for cardinalfishes, damselfish, and various species of anemones. You may also encounter moray eels and diverse species of crustaceans, including shrimp and squat lobsters.

For macro enthusiasts, the area is particularly rewarding. The rocky surfaces and overhangs are covered in sponges and orange encrusting organisms, providing a habitat for numerous nudibranchs and various species of doris. You might also spot the rare large sea anemone or small creatures like galathea crabs and various shrimps hiding in the crevices.

Navigation and diving are conducted via boat, and divers should be prepared for the typical Mediterranean environment of the eastern plain. The sites vary from shallow reefs to deeper wrecks, requiring appropriate buoyancy control and depth management.
