MAEVA PLONGEE, Corsica Diving Center

Maeva Plongée is situated in the seaside locality of Porticcio, positioned just 8km from Campo Del Oro airport and 15km from the port of Ajaccio. The centre provides a direct link to the water, with maritime shuttles running from Ajaccio's Tino Rossi port straight to the pontoon located right in front of the club.

The centre serves as a gateway to the Golfe d’Ajaccio, an area renowned for its exceptional marine biodiversity and dramatic underwater landscapes. You will find yourself diving alongside massive underwater mountains, deep canyons, and intricate granite labyrinths that define the South coast of the gulf.

The centre is multi-affiliated, catering to divers through PADI, SSI, FFESSM, FSGT, ANMP, CEDIP, and CMAS frameworks. This allows for a seamless transition between international recreational standards and the French national diving system. Instruction is available in both French and English.

The team manages a wide range of divers, from children participating in beach initiations to professionals training for instructor roles. The centre is also equipped to handle larger groups, supported by spacious facilities that include a 200m² club area and a 50m² outdoor terrace.

The training programme is comprehensive, covering the full spectrum of certifications from Scuba Diver and PADI Open Water Diver to Advanced Open Water and Rescue Diver. For those following the French system, the centre provides instruction for Niveau 1, Niveau 2, and Niveau 3, as well as the Bronze, Silver, and Gold diver levels.

Technical and specialty training is a core component of the curriculum. You can undertake the PADI Deep Diver Specialty, Nitrox certification, and buoyancy specialties. The centre also supports more advanced paths, including PE40 and PE60 (Plongeur Encadré) qualifications, and training for professional roles such as Divemaster.

The centre operates with close proximity to the dive boats, with the boarding area situated only 10m from the club. This setup allows for efficient transitions between the shore and the vessel. Gases available on board include Nitrox for decompression optimisation, and the centre also supports rebreather divers.

The shore-based facilities are designed for comfort and hygiene, featuring large changing rooms with private cabins, hot showers, and sanitary facilities. A dedicated classroom is available for theory sessions, alongside a shop and reception area.

For those requiring kit hire, the centre maintains a fleet of 30 complete Mares equipment sets. They also stock specialized gear for children, including wetsuits, BCDs, cylinders, and regulators. All wetsuits and regulators undergo disinfection after every use. For specialized needs, you can hire dive computers, torches, and reef hooks.

The marine life in the Golfe d’Ajaccio is diverse, with visibility often reaching between 20 and 50 metres. You will encounter large pelagics and resident species such as groupers, amberjack, dentex, and barracuda. Dolphins are also known to frequent these waters.

The reef habitats are populated by a variety of fish including sea bream, John Dory, salema porgy, and wrasses, alongside moray eels and various species of sea urchins. You may also spot ocean sunfish and pufferfish cruising the water column.

For those interested in macro life, the area hosts nudibranchs, starfish, and various sponges. The rocky and coral structures are home to sea anemones and corals, providing a rich backdrop for observing smaller organisms and crustaceans like large slipper lobsters.

The diving environment is characterised by significant topographical variety, from shallow reefs to deep-sea canyons. The granite formations create complex swim-throughs and labyrinths that are best explored by experienced divers.

While the area is suitable for all levels, the presence of canyons and steep walls means that divers should be comfortable with depth management and potential currents in certain sectors of the gulf.
