Coloir Des Baleines, Moorea: outer reef slope diving

You will approach the Coloir Des Baleines by boat from the Temae, Hilton, or Intercontinental sectors. Unlike a vertical drop-off, this site is characterized by an outer-ocean slope that follows the natural topography of the Moorea reef edge. This descending terrain provides a different profile than a standard wall dive, as you move through varying degrees of the reef's outward extension.

The dive profile begins on the upper terraces and follows a downward slope toward the maximum depth of 29 metres. As you descend, the terrain transitions from shallower reef sections into the deeper, more exposed parts of the outer slope. This structure is typical of the outer reef configuration in this specific sector of Moorea, offering a wide area to explore through the varying depths.

The topography is composed of coral-covered reef terraces that step down toward the open ocean. Navigating these terraces requires awareness of your buoyancy, as the gradient is constant but the terrain can be uneven.
