Buceo Carey

Buceo Carey has been a fixture of the Baja California Sur diving scene since 1992. Located directly in the Marina La Paz, the centre is unique in the area for having its own dedicated offices and private quay, allowing for a direct and streamlined service for every diver.

The centre is affiliated with SNSI, providing a range of certifications from initial entry-level courses through to professional instructor training. The team is legally employed and provides instruction in Spanish, English, and Japanese.

For those looking to extend their stay, the centre is closely linked to Villa Carey. This private accommodation club is designed specifically with divers in mind, offering a comfortable base to relax between trips.

Training at Buceo Carey covers the full spectrum of scuba diving, from the Open Water Diver course through to Advanced levels and Instructor training. They also offer the Nitrox course to help you extend your bottom time.

The centre provides a dedicated heated pool at Villa Carey, which is used for training and skill development.

The fleet consists of three 30-foot boats, each powered by a 300 HP Yamaha four-stroke engine. These vessels are configured to carry 12 divers or 12 snorkelers per trip.

On board, you will find essential facilities including a W.C. and first aid equipment. The boats are also equipped with oxygen for safety, and lunch and non-alcoholic drinks are provided during the excursions.

The centre maintains a significant inventory of equipment, including 150 aluminium cylinders. They operate a membrane Nitrox system, which is a unique feature for the north-western part of the country.

For those needing to hire kit, a full range of SCUBAPRO equipment is available, including BCDs, regulators, fins, masks, and snorkels. Wetsuits can also be hired on-site.

The waters around La Paz are home to various large species, including whale sharks, which arrive every year. You can also encounter California sea lions, sea turtles, and various reef fish throughout the area.

In the archipelago and surrounding reefs, look out for cormorants and other marine life such as snapper (Lutjanus), grouper (Epinephelus), and green jacks. The presence of coral reefs provides a vibrant backdrop for these encounters.

For those interested in macro life, the area supports a variety of smaller organisms including octopus (Octopus vulgaris), seahorses (Hippocampus kuda), and nudibranchs (Chromodoris willani). You may also find frogfish (Antennarius) and various species of sea stars and sea urchins among the reef structures.

The local diving is defined by the seasonal presence of whale sharks in the bay. The area's geography, including the archipelago and protected bays, provides varied environments ranging from open water to sheltered reef areas.
