FreeDive Baja

FreeDive Baja provides a dedicated gateway to the freediving disciplines within the unique ecosystem of Baja California Sur. Based in San Jose del Cabo, the centre focuses on the art of breath-hold diving, offering a structured environment for both beginners and experienced practitioners.

The centre's location allows for direct access to the Sea of Cortez, a region renowned for its high biodiversity. Whether you are looking to develop your technique through formal training or seeking guided encounters with large pelagics, the focus remains on professional instruction and environmental responsibility.

The team at FreeDive Baja is composed of experienced instructors specialising in AIDA freediving certifications. They manage a multicultural community, providing instruction in English to accommodate a wide range of divers.

Training is organised into small groups to ensure personalised attention and safety during every session. The centre also runs specific programmes for younger divers, with junior freediving courses available for children from the age of 6.

The centre is an AIDA affiliated training facility, offering a full range of freediving courses. This includes introductory programmes for those new to breath-hold diving through to advanced training for certified freedivers.

For younger participants, specific Junior Freediving Courses are available to build foundational skills safely. Beyond standard certification, the centre also facilitates professional underwater photography sessions for those looking to document their time in the water.

The waters around Baja are famous for large pelagics. You can encounter whale sharks (Rhincodon typus) and various species of sharks, including hammerhead sharks (Sphyrnidae) and silky sharks (Carcharhinus falciformis). Sea lions are also a regular presence in these coastal areas.

In the open water, you may see dolphins (Delphinidae), various species of mobula rays, and even humpback whales (Megaptera novaeangliae). Other large marine animals, such as tuna (Thunnus) and yellowfin tuna, are frequently sighted moving through the area.

The reef environments support a variety of fish, including groupers (Epinephelinae), snapper schools, and jacks (Carangidae). You will also find various species of turtles (Cheloniidae) and smaller fish such as pilotfishes navigating the habitat.
