Deep Dark Diving - Yucatan

Deep Dark Diving operates in the heart of the Yucatan, providing access to some of the most unique underwater environments on the planet. The region is famous for its vast network of cenotes, ranging from shallow, sunlit openings to deep, dark cave systems that require advanced technical skills.

Beyond the freshwater systems, the centre provides access to the vibrant reef ecosystems of Cozumel and the Caribbean coast. Whether you are looking for a guided reef dive or advanced training in a cave, the centre is built around technical precision and safety.

The centre is led by a highly qualified team of instructors, including founder Geraldine Solignac, a TDI Instructor Trainer specializing in Cave and Tech, and Christine Loew, an SDI/TDI Instructor Trainer and Course Director. The instructor team also includes Daniel Gonzalez, a TDI Instructor Trainer, and Norma Enríquez, who manages logistics and equipment.

Training is conducted with a focus on discipline and personalised instruction. The centre is affiliated with TDI and SDI, ensuring that all technical and recreational courses meet international standards. For those looking to expand their skills, the instructors offer expertise in everything from basic Open Water to advanced cave surveying.

Communication is seamless for international divers, as the staff are proficient in English, Spanish, French, and German.

The course catalogue is extensive, catering to both recreational and technical divers. For those starting their journey, the centre offers SDI Open Water Diver, Advanced Open Water Diver, and Rescue Diver certifications.

Technical training is a core specialty, with a full suite of TDI and SDI courses. This includes Advanced Nitrox, Decompression Procedures, TDI Extended Range, and TDI Trimix. For those looking to penetrate cave systems, the curriculum covers Cavern, Intro to Cave, Full Cave, Stage Cave, Deco Cave, and DPV Cave training.

Specialised workshops are also available, such as Tech Sidemount, Backmount/Sidemount workshops, and TDI Cave Surveying. For those using rebreathers, they offer CCR Cave Training.

For trips to Cozumel, the centre utilises a comfortable boat that departs from Playa del Carmen. The vessel provides both sunny and shaded areas for relaxation between dives and is equipped with water, fruit, snacks, and sandwiches for your convenience.

The centre offers a full range of rental equipment, including regulators, fins, masks, snorkels, and wetsuits. For technical divers, they provide Liberty rebreathers and DPVs for rent.

On-site, you will find a selection of weights and specialized kit for technical diving. The centre also provides transportation from the base in Playa del Carmen to the dive sites included in many packages.

The cenotes and reefs provide a stable habitat for various species. During the winter months, from November to March, you may encounter Bull sharks in the coastal waters.

In the reefs around Playa del Carmen, you can observe Bull sharks during their seasonal visits. You will also find various reef fish and corals across the different dive sites.

In the Cozumel area, the reefs host a variety of marine life, though specific species depend on the reef and current conditions.

The cenotes offer exceptionally stable conditions with no currents, providing an ideal environment for training and exploration. The water temperature remains consistent throughout the year.

Reef diving in the Caribbean and Cozumel is subject to seasonal patterns, particularly regarding the presence of larger pelagics like Bull sharks between November and March.
