Mama Viña Wreck Dive, Playa del Carmen: artificial reef exploration

The Mama Viña offers a distinct wreck diving experience just south of Playa del Carmen, a deliberate act to foster marine life after its purposeful sinking in 1995. As you descend, the dark silhouette of the shrimp trawler materializes from the blue, its form providing immediate shelter and structure. The integrity of the wreck, while years into its transformation into an artificial reef, still allows glimpses into its former life, with the ghostly outlines of its working decks and hold.
