When diving the Cozumel Reef, the biodiversity increases significantly. You can expect to see schools of snapper, various tropical fish, and parrotfish (Calotomus) amongst the coral. Surgeonfish (Acanthuridae) and Angelfish (Pomacanthidae) are also common residents of the reef.

Larger pelagics and reef residents are frequently spotted, including Green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas), Southern stingray (Hypanus americanus), and various species of Moray eel (Muraenidae). You may also encounter Barracuda (Sphyraena) or Tarpon (Megalops) patrolling the deeper sections of the reef.

Macro life and smaller creatures are abundant, such as Lobster (Homaridae), crabs (Brachyura), and various small fish. The reef structure itself is home to a wide array of juvenile reef fish and other small organisms that make every dive a detailed observation.

Diving in the region involves two distinct environments: the sheltered, still waters of the cenotes and the more open conditions of the Cozumel reef. The cenotes generally offer very calm conditions, making them ideal for technical training and precision buoyancy work.
