Taz Diving

Located in Tulum, Mexico, Taz Diving offers a focused approach to diving in one of the world's most unique aquatic environments. The centre operates as an independent business, specialising in the exploration of the region's famous cenotes and cavern systems.

Rather than large-scale commercial operations, this centre provides a more intimate setting for divers. You can expect a personalised approach to every excursion, whether you are navigating a limestone swim-through or heading out for a day trip to the coast.

The centre is run by Taryn (Taz), a PADI certified instructor and experienced cave guide. Her expertise is central to the centre's identity, particularly for those looking to move beyond open water into more specialised cavern environments.

Instruction is delivered in English, and the centre maintains a strict ratio of one guide for every four divers. This ensures that even in the more complex ceiling environments of the cenotes, you receive dedicated attention and guidance.

Taz Diving offers a comprehensive range of PADI training programmes. For those new to the water, the journey begins with Discover Scuba Diving and the Open Water Diver course.

For more experienced divers, the centre provides Advanced Open Water Diver, Deep Diver, and Wreck Diver certifications. They also offer specialised training including the Dry suit instructor course and EFR Instructor training.

The cenote systems host a variety of unique life, including cave-adapted crustaceans and freshwater crabs. The stillness of these waters allows for clear sightings of these specialised inhabitants.

When diving the coastal areas near Cozumel, you will encounter much larger pelagics and reef species. You can regularly spot Green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas), various species of snapper schools, and even a resident crocodile named Pancho.

In the reef environments, look out for Moray eel (Muraenidae), specifically the Green moray (Gymnothorax funebris), alongside Parrotfish (Calotomus), Surgeonfish (Acanthuridae), and Angelfish (Pomacanthidae). You may also see Barracuda (Sphyraena), Tarpon (Megalops), and various species of Ray (Batoidea) or Southern stingray (Hypanus americanus).

Diving in the Tulum cenotes is characterised by very calm conditions with no currents, allowing for slow, methodical exploration of the cave systems. These environments are ideal for those practicing buoyancy control.

Coastal dives near Cozumel may present different conditions compared to the inland freshwater systems, but the cenote dives themselves remain exceptionally stable.
