Grand Mercure Jakarta Harmoni has 483 rooms across 19 floors, with the practical range that comes with that scale: single rooms, twin and double rooms, family options and suites.

English is spoken by the hotel team, which makes the basics easier when you are arriving tired, arranging a transfer or asking the concierge about the city. The atmosphere is more business-and-city than barefoot-and-sandy, with a restaurant, lounge, spa, pool and fitness centre keeping the evening on site when that is what you need.

The hotel serves breakfast, but the stay is not presented as a half-board or all-inclusive package. The practical choice is breakfast at the hotel, then either the restaurant or the lounge according to how much effort dinner deserves.

The pool and outdoor pool give you somewhere to cool off without turning the evening into another expedition across Jakarta. There is also a children’s pool, while the sun terrace and garden offer the less ambitious option: sit down and stay there for a while. Billards is available when a little competition seems preferable to another screen.
