Labuan Bajo is about one hour away by boat, so the location gives you the sea at the door but puts town firmly on the other side of the water.

Komodo International Airport is about 7 miles away as the crow flies. Your actual arrival involves a taxi to the Le Pirate mainland office, followed by the boat journey to the island. Restaurants, cafés and named local sights around Labuan Bajo are several miles away on the mainland, which makes the on-site restaurant rather more important than it would be at an ordinary coastal hotel.

Choose the accommodation according to how much of the island you want to bring indoors. The compact Beach Hut suits a couple who plans to spend the daylight hours outside and wants the shortest possible route to sand and sea. For a little more room and a private bathroom, the Glamping Sweet Beach Front is the more comfortable choice, with the beach doing its work just beyond the accommodation.

The Sunrise Beach Front option is the one to consider if first light matters to you; the name puts the emphasis in the right place. Backstage glamping keeps you close to the island setting while sitting away from the front line of the beach. These are adult-only stays for two, with the larger glamping options offering more breathing space than the hut. Nights are fan-cooled rather than air-conditioned, with no hot water. That suits a low-key island stay, but it is worth knowing before you arrive with mainland-hotel expectations. Island Bar is the resort's single bar, serving cocktails, beer, wine, fresh juices and tropical drinks. Daily Happy Hour runs from 16:00 to 19:00, a perfectly sensible time to watch the light change with something cold in hand. For a small island, the evening logistics are refreshingly straightforward: eat, drink, sit outside and let the sea provide the background noise.

The beach is the main piece of equipment here. You have direct access to white sand and the water, with sun loungers and beach chairs for the serious business of doing very little. Snorkelling and canoeing are available, and the island setting makes both easy choices when you want movement without committing to another full-scale expedition.

The scheduled shuttle leaves the mainland office at 10:00, with a 09:30 meeting point for the briefing, and returns from the island at 14:00, reaching Labuan Bajo at about 15:00. A private boat transfer can be arranged if your flight does not fit that timetable; contact the hotel in advance rather than trying to improvise on the quayside.

Check-in starts at 14:00 and check-out is by 11:00. You need photo identification and a credit card at check-in, and the property needs your expected arrival time. The stay has a minimum length of two nights. Visa, Mastercard, DOKU, bank transfer and cash are accepted for payments, while a safe-deposit box and 24-hour security cover the more practical side of island life.

This is an off-grid setting, powered by solar electricity, so pack for the conditions rather than expecting a shopping run once you arrive. Light clothing, comfortable sandals, insect repellent, reef-friendly sun protection, personal medication, a dry bag and a power bank all earn their place in the luggage. Smoking is permitted only in designated areas, and drone use is restricted around guest areas, with beach use subject to the resort's conditions.

The hotel operates off-grid with solar-powered electricity, making the energy system part of the island's everyday operation rather than a decorative statement. Organic kitchen waste is composted, grey water is treated through aerobic bio-septic systems for garden irrigation, and waste is sorted before being transported to the mainland for recycling and processing.

The resort also works on the coastline itself. Coconut trees and coastal plants have been planted to help restore the island environment, while coral nursing and coral planting support marine conservation. A protected reef zone has been established in front of the island, with a growing restoration area that guests can see while snorkelling.
